Thompkins makes the call

Thompkins committed to Penn State on Saturday.

After watching Penn State in its annual Blue-White Game on Saturday afternoon, Swansboro (N.C.) wide receiver DeAndre Thompkins didn't take long to tell the coaching staff that he wanted to be a Nittany Lion.

The Top247 prospect committed to head coach Bill O'Brien with his father present.

"Me and my father went to the room with Coach Stan Hixon and Coach Bill O'Brien, I told him then and there that I was a verbal commit there and I felt comfortable with the University," he said.

The Nittany Lions were among the first to offer the 6-foot, 170-pound wideout. He has picked up offers from Clemson, Notre Dame, Tennessee and others this spring.

He visited Penn State in the fall for a game.

"Just weighing the pros and cons of the University, I've been there before today and I still got the same vibe from the coaches, the area and the people," he said. "There's a lot of good things that you can really get out of that University."

Thompkins carries a four-star, 92 rating from 247Sports. He checks in at No. 173 in the latest installment of the Top247 and is the No. 9 prospect in North Carolina.
