  • i'll be rooting for this guy, hopefully he is good enough to earn a couple downs in the beginning weeks of the season

  • Good luck to the kid. Any idea what position he played on defense? Might have a better chance to see the field as a DB.

  • Anybody see him play? Can he contribute here as a FB? Would seem similar to Suhey's situation where he was more of a tailback a the HS level, although this kid is much bigger.

  • Best of luck to him. Sometimes being the underdog turns out very well.

  • Why do people feel the need to move him from RB? Our depth there isn't exactly spectacular, especially if Dukes is in trouble (though we haven't heard any confirmation of that). He'd need to lose about 20 pounds to play DB, and that's without even knowing how he plays defense.

  • Few make it, but, there are a lot of kids who would kill for his opportunity. I hope he can make a contribution.

No matter how bad the RB depth is, it's far worse at DB. We have Redd, Belton, maybe Dukes and Lynch who will probably see PT next year. Possibly Zwinak as well. So, unless he blows the staff away, he is behind at least 3 if not 5 players the second he steps on the practice field.

  • What's the difference between a regular walk-on and a "preferred"walk-on? Are preferred walk-ons guaranteed to be on the scout team? It would be kind of cold to "recruit" a kid and then kick him to the curb if he had other opportunities.

When we signed him, I googled some tape from him and he is definitely a tough kid so I could see the transition. He didn't shy away from contact and was able to get low and keep his legs moving. However, didn't see much regarding catching out of the backfield or blocking.

FWIW, he also showed pretty good leverage as a wrestler (they had some of his tapes on youtube and I googled his records) and only started wrestling his JR year. I am a big fan of former wrestlers at those interior postions (offense: FB, guard and center/defense: NT and MLB). They are usually tough as nails and play with leverage.

And yet, I don't see why anyone would want a 5'11" 215 pound kid to move to DB. Like I said, he'd need to lose weight, and that's without even knowing how he plays DB. All we know right now is that he did quite well at RB in high school (statistically against good opponents). We have no idea how he is at DB...His height/weight corresponds more to LB than it does to DB, so that's probably where he played in HS.

  • Wish him the best. He seems determined and that can pay off. Penn State has a history some successful walk-ons.

    Domo

  • Good read, I hope he kicks some butt. PSU has had other walk ons contribute significantly.

He is no Cody. Way too athletic and carries the weight pretty well. He played TE in IM Arena Football last year and practically knocked a kid out who made the mistake of getting in his way on a reception. flex

Also, he is starting out a OG.

I think preferred walk-ons are given a spot on the team without trying out. It's more like being given a spot when no scholly is available.

  • Somebody did a nice job coaching his O-Line. Some nice holes. Really like this one. Good luck kid. weights

  • I've seen him play. The article sums him up really well --- Wolski especially. He's tough as nails and an over-achiever. Not to say he's devoid of talent, but his determination and toughness will be apparent. Whether he physically good enough time will tell, but he certainly brings the intangibles and he won't fail due to lack of effort. I don't see him as a DB, ever, as others mentioned if he ends up on defense it will be at linebacker.

  • I have read good things about him and heard he might move to FB. The kid is a worker so I amsure he will do well. He must have something going for him to be 2nd to LJ at that school. Gotta root ofr kids that walk on.
