scholarship questions

  • SIAP, without bowl games, kids like Allen Robinson, Amos, Barnes, James might move on earlier than other PSU kids that stuck around to compete for B1G titles. If an underclassman gets a 4th round grade or higher from the NFL draft advisory board, its probably likely that they move on.

  • If we push kids out en masse with the notion of cutting dead weight because of the sanctions, than Emmert has a point.

Funny how he pushed us into that corner, but I'm not certain we should take the bait.

its the situation we are in, and McGregor was never on scholarship

Your point is well taken, but if we succumb to the situation then we are no better than any other program. That makes no better than tOSU or SEC teams. The kids that stuck around deserve a little more respect than to be nudged off the team. Not that it matters but Shane was awarded a scholarship in September of this year probably due to having a couple extras after some guys left.

Yeah that certainly isn't true. Kids are guaranteed four years, no more. EVEN under Paterno this happened all the time. The SEC is cutting guys after ayear or two, and sometimes even when they move in their freshman years. Two COMPLETELY COMPLETELY different situations which isn't even close.

Also, walk-ons are given one year scholarships still and they know that if the coaches need them they'll be going to scholarship kids. Also something under Joe's staff that will still be going on here.

Well - they could stay or go based off of how deep their position is that year, or if they feel they can improve their stock with another year. I think not going to bowl games would be very far down the list on reasons to leave early.

I am just saying a lot of kids stay to compete for championships and without that option, it might make kids move on (that would stay) if they get a solid grade from the NFL draft advisory board. JMO, 4th round or higher from the NFL advisory board is good enough to warrant entering early. They typically error on the side of caution.

  • more irony from the sanctions.... The situation they have created is actually going to force PSU to "trim the fat" from the roster between now and 2014.

"Likely to move on" is a stretch. Kids come to school for more than just titles and bowls as we have seen this year. Guys often want their degrees, have the opportunity to play with their friends and certainly to improve their draft stock if all they get is a 4th round grade.

  • I think it has been revealed what type of character BOB has. I don't think he will have any trouble handling marginal 5th year players who need to move on with class and professionalism. It is what it is.

Yes. But I think you want to try to distribute them as evenly as possible. Plus, the EE requirement limits you quite in terms of selection pool size and quality.

    See this article...

EE's becoming extremely popular nowadays. Georgia expect 18 this class.

I think OB can start telling these 2015 kids hes recruiting early on to try and plan on early enrolling. It wont only help PSU, but also him with other schools as it gives them flexibility.

Early enrollment is becoming the norm in SEC recruiting

UGAs a trend likely to continue.
