How you people haven't denounced the football program and everything and everyone associated with it is beyond me.

It seems basic independent thought alone is beyond you.

Here's the problem with the protocol argument.......The protocol was that everyone reported to Joe, EVERYONE. Joe called all the shots, and if you disagree with that then Santa Clause is coming down your chimney tonight to drop off some mid-summer presents.

What did the football program do wrong again?

  • Why shouldn't we promote our university? What do you think Bill was doing on ESPN? Needs to be done correctly though. All for it

You do know that the "culture" of ND values film of practice more than human life, don't you? After all, ND knowingly placed a young man's life in jeopardy just to videotape a freaking practice. How you haven't denounced the program is beyond me.

Redd took the easy way out. Trust me NFL teams will look at that.

don't hold your breath. If he's good enough they won't hold it against him. If fact, the NFL was the driving force, most likely, in him wanting to transfer to a national contender. You shouldn't blame him. Blame your former head coach and school administrators. Not trying to be a dick but I'm looking at it from a neutral perspective.

And if you really want to find the person responsible, ask the Attorney General who didn't pursue the case in 1998. You know, Gov. Corbett.

MIke Fisher was the AG in 1998. He had to authority to take CYS off the case and put the DPW on the case and he also had the inlfuence to have Ray Gricar take over the case personally and take his prosecutor Karen Arnold off the case. It was the state's DPW that wrote the report declaring that Jerry Sandusky was absolutely not a pedophile (ironically the exact same agency that Curley and Schulz would get hit with failing to report Sandusky as a pedophile to in 2001 - the same agency that had already declared their opinion that Sandusky did not fit the profile of a pedophile) and it was that report that played heavily in Gricar deciding not to prosecute in 1998. Fisher was also taking tons of campaign cash out of the 2nd Mile as well as Corbett. Just a few things to chew on.

"I'm looking at it from a neutral perspective." says the guy with a derogatory picture of Joe Paterno in his sig line. Aren't our trolls the best? God bless their hearts. What would we do w/o out their keen insight to keep us all from going astray. Why doesn't 247 have a premium board again???

I agree - the whimsical ideas of people trying to restore the public view of Joe Paterno is a bit much

Hi folks, I'm interested in compiling a comprehensive list of all of the academic accomplishments of Joe Paterno's football program over the years. Everything. What I am thinking of is to produce a full page ad to place in national newspapers like the Wall Street Journal and the USA Today. The idea is to compile a comprehensive bulleted list of all the academic accomplishments of Joe Paterno's football program throughout the years, including rankings vs. the rest of division 1, and challenge all those who insist Penn State had a win-at-all-costs, football-is-king culture that completely subjugated the university's academic mission to explain how each individual bullet item supports that idea. I envision the challenge addressed to Mark Emmert personally but it would be open to all the haters out there There's some good stuff in last year's football game programs such as numbers of academic all-Americans and grad rates but I need help compiling a comprehensive list that will show overwhelming evidence to show that the idea of a win at all costs football-is-king culture existing at Penn State is a complete and total lie. I want a knockout punch thrown to that slanderous notion and I want it thrown to the chin of Mark Emmert. I have a vision for the design of that ad but will need help putting it together getting it out there an also obviously with funding and hope the PSU community can help with all that. We are at war and this war is a media war and we'll have to fight it on their terms in order to win.

Some other things that we need to get straightened out is that I noticed that Joe's Wikipedia page still features some of Louis Freeh's lies like the notion that Joe orchestrated a cover up for Sandusky and also is still making the debunked claim that Joe lied to the Grand Jury about the 1998 incident. If there's anyone out there who knows Wikipedia it would be very helpful if they go clean that crap up.

Also, does anyone have any idea how to put a stop to Vicky Triponey? Her fingerprints are all over this media onslaught. She was all over the Freeh Report. She was all over Emmert (perhaps literally) and now she'll be all over ESPN. How can we put a stop to her nonsense? I need ideas.

We're at war and we're fighting it without allies. Even our own leadership might have strayed beyond incompetence, ineffectiveness and fecklessness and might be actively working for the other side in direct opposition to PSU's best interests. We need to get organized and start formulating and enacting a coherent resistance and I want to contribute my ideas.

Not sure if there is a one stop shop for all the academic accomplishments, but I am sure the ones already listed early in the thread, as well as some google searches could find some good results. Plenty to be proud of with regards to your student-athletes through the years.

Thanks for that. Wow. I had to look up the acronyms:

DPW = Department of Public Welfare; CYS = Child & Youth Services.

DPW cleared Sandusky declared Sandusky 'absolutely not' a Pedofile in 1998? Then DPW blasted these guys for 2001?

And 2nd Mile funded both guys. The intersection of DPW and Second Mile sounds like the place to look.

Would things have gone differently if CYS had conducted the investigation?
