    The Heel

  • The wildcat is valuable because it provides another block, presumably at the point of attack, giving a numbers advantage to the offense. But there are other ways of getting creative to gain those advantages, it really is just about choices. Bob must believe that we can gain those advantages better or more efficiently within his system rather than relying on the wildcat. It does force the defense to prepare for something else, but it also takes time for the offense to prepare. It also limits what you can do in the formation due to personnel. Lots of ways to skin a cat, excited to see how BOB gets it done!

  • Like a lot of people have said, I think the wildcat was useful last year because the offense desperately needed something else. But I've always thought that once you show your hand with the wildcat, you're done with it. It worked against ohio state last year because nobody had film of it or really game planned against it. But Wiscy got a good look at it and was ready for it. I even noticed that ohio state was able to adjust to it coming out of half time. It's a good way to shake things up and try to put the defense off balance every once in a while, but in no way is it any sort of a long term solution. I'm not really going to miss it.

  • He's eliminating an opportunity to get mismatches, so it suggests to me that there are other more fundamental areas of the offense which need to be developed before he can add bells and whistles like the wildcat.

Id rather not see the wildcat this year, because that means we dont need it.

MM had enough time learning and executing a HS offense, the douche is over matched in a real O. Go Drake.

How can you possibly find it appropriate to demean any college football players on this board? Good or bad they are still student athletes, representing their university, trying their best. They deserve more respect than to be called names.

Criticize and critique their play all you want. Leave personal attacks off the board. I'm surprised Sean allows it to continue.

  • If McGloin is your QB, you can't run wildcat. If Drake runs it, it works. I'll give BOB the benefit of the doubt, but if the O doesn't play up to what he installs, he better have something else in the closet. I'm a BIG believer that at the college level, you must have a QB who can make plays when the scripted one breaks down. Michael Robinson thrived on that. If the QB is just going to sit in the pocket all day, the D will come hard at him every down. JMO.

  • I never understood the facination with the wildcat. If McGloin is the starter, then as soon as he lines up wide and Belton is taking the snap, then guess what...WILDCAT! Seems predictable to me.

Like someone else mentioned, isnt it just a variation of what teams do with teh spread? Like MRob or DC?

I don't know if you've see how Matt acts in the media or in interviews or towards teammates, but I don't think that's really how you are supposed to 'represent' your university. And if that's trying his best at doing so, I'd hate to see his worst.

Shame he got knocked out on the first punch - a few more might have done some good

Personally not a big fan of the wild cat as to me is speaks more of desperation than anything...and last year, I was happy to see it(yes that is how confident I was in our "O")

If it were a change the pace once in a while I dont mind it, but Im hopin the reason for it being takin out is that Coach feels he and Fisher can do some things more traditionally this year.

It is the single reason we went into the shoe last year and won. We still have the same QB's, and while Bob may be coaching them up, I didnt see any improvement whatsoever in the Spring game, with a really dumbed down offense, and playing against walk on DB's.

I see no reason to take it out completely, but I guess the staff would know best. Color me disappointed if we remove it completely.
