Your recruiting

  • I won't lie, I'm jealous of you guys. You got a great TE,DE, and OL recruit. I know it's very early in recruiting season, but I have to give your coach props on sealing up the North-East region.

What are your guys' general thoughts on your recruiting?

Pretty much loving it ATM....still very early in the process...we just have to keep these kids interested and make sure they sign come February. I also think recruiting can pick up even more if we field a competitive team this year. Also, we'll see if he (BOB) can land a certain transfer we are after....then i'll truly be enamored with our new staff.

  • Considering that our best recruiter Larry Johnson hasn't even warmed up yet, I'm happy as hell!!

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

  • Great start, but still very early. Also, it really won't mean much unless it translates to Wins on the field...

  • So far I couldn't be more pleased as we have a new coach starting his job under some trying circumstances and has gotten of to the best start that I can ever remember (and I am about 50 years old so I have seen quite a few classes)..

I have also seen Bill O'Brien speak and he is very well spoken, interesting, intense and entertaining - I was ready to suit up after listening to him :-)...

Al Golden is like that too for us, so I know the awesome feeling of having a coach like that.

Great start. Everyone we have on board, maybe absent Douglass, wasn't a surprise to me. We have one more kid ripe to verbal at any moment and he has been PSU's all along. After he goes public, whenever that is, the real work begins. The new staff seems to be up for the challenge and have worked hard on the recruiting trails - something that has been foreign to PSU for a decade. BOB seems to be able to relate to the recruits and is a no bs type of guy. It will pay dividends. Hope this continues.

I don't necessarily think that is the case....Switzer, Breneman, and Mahon were all big PSU fans and leans from the get-go, the others, however, were anything but a sure thing for PSU. Each time the staff sets up the personal 1 v 1 dates for these guys we seem to instantly make major moves up their lists. I'm confident some of the visitors that are coming in the coming weeks will have similar results and we might pick up some recruits like Sickels (who came from nowhere really). I actually think when Donta Wilkins visits we have a real shot to shoot way up his list.

Switzer was not a "big" PSU fan from the get-go. He grew up a WVU fan (so much so that WVU fans called him a lock whenever Holgerson were to offer). I think our biggest jump with him was the BOB hire and the recent JR day.

You might not remember it, but Switzer almost verballed to the old regime late last summer.

For the first time in ages every member of the staff is pulling their weight.

Al Golden is very familiar to us as he played at PSU. Many thought he was the successor to Joe. He is a great coach and really intense. Miami will benefit from having him.

I feel bad for Al with those sanctions coming. It sucks walking into that mess.

I feel bad too but Al's a stand up guy. He'll deal with it and move on. It's not like these high profile D1 coaching jobs aren't tough enough, then you add in an additional mess you had nothing to do with. I will always pull for guys like Al who do it the right way!

yeah...but the U has giving him a lifetime contract to guide the ship through those times, at the end of year secen is when he needs to really roll up his sleeves. he is the type of guy to have already started but he is set for life...with the sanctions if it goes bad won't look bad on him, if successful he looks amazing
