  • Which of those has the scratch to come after O'Brien? I think his buy out will be in the neighborhood of $9M.

    Of those, Auburn and Tennessee.

    WVU if he upgrades

Illinois cause he is that bad

    PENN STATE FOREVER

  • Can agree with all of that at this point. I would personally hope that a coaching change is made that PSU can take advantage of (i.e. steal a couple recruits), but the only one I can see is Trey Johnson at Auburn...and we won't be the ones taking advantage of that.

Holgerson isn't going anywhere. WVU is a perfect fit for him.

Beckman gets at least one more year. Illinois doesn't have the $$$$ to buyout Beckman after one year and make another hire.

I don't know that any of them will be coming after O'Brien, and I don't think that was the implication of Hamilton's post.

Forgot about Colorado. Embree is indeed gone.

    Hamilton Lion

  • Tennessee, almost assuredly. Dooley has done nothing there, and this was supposed to be a put up or shut up year.

I think they stick by Edsall in Maryland.
I have heard people grumbling about Stoops again, but I'm sure he'll go on a run again and they'll shut up like that always do.

‏@Cordale10 Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS

  • I'm thinking Auburn will give him one more year...he has a pretty good recruiting class coming in and is only a few years removed from winning NC...although it may have been result of a couple hundred thousand dollar payoff...

I don't see Illinois cutting him loose after one year...mainly because who would they get to come in and take that job if they fear they have one year to turn it around,

I think Charlie Strong will be leaving Louisville as well, maybe taking the job at Arkansas? Although Tennessee could get in on him as well..

  • Possibly Nebraska and Georgia

    An Actual Lion

  • I'm going sleeper pick ... Virginia.

They just got rolled by Duke and have lost 4 in a row (should be five). They have some serious potential to lose an additional 4 games this year.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

Can we get back in on bradshaw and cook at uva?

  • Definitely keep an eye on Nebraska. Husker fans are not happy and Tom Osbourne is retiring.

Maryland's AD is in the red (e.g. all those crazy UA uniforms from last year were autographed and auctioned off to help fund the AD). I'm sure they would prefer a fresh start, but they probably cannot afford to pull it off.

Agreed about UVA. Speaking of Duke, they could have an opening as I think Cutliff could be pursued by some other programs that have openings.

If MD continues to lose and draw 10,000 per game, the alternate question is whether they can afford to not fire Esdsall.

  • No way does Edsall get fired. He's finally got his kids buying into the team, he got rid of all the bad apples, and they're looking better every week.

Having a kid like Diggs for the next 3 or 4 years won't hurt either. I think they're going to surprise people sooner than later.

Not that I think O'Brien is going anywhere, but his contract was extended to 9 years. So does that make the buy out even more?

Yes, it was based on the amount left in his contract, so extra time = extra buyout.

Ha...I remember when this board had a man crush on Mike London because he won a couple recruiting battles...Talk about trending in the wrong direction at the wrong time with the loaded 2014 VA class coming up through.

It was premature, but two weekends ago I tweeted to Jamie Oakes and asked him if London was on the hot seat or if the seat was warming up. Jamie basically shrugged off the idea (like I said it might be a little premature), but this was before the Duke beat down.

I guess the question is whether or not UVA can do any better coaching wise and if London has bought himself a couple additional years no matter what.

If he gets another year ... next year he will need to get up to that 9+ win total next year.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

    Lang06

  • I don't know that London would be on the hot seat. Mostly because it's Virginia...what kind of football expectations do they really have? Granted, a 3-win season wouldn't sit well, but I don't see it being enough to get him fired. London has earned a lot of good grace with UVA fans, and I think it would take two downhill seasons to ruin that. JMO.
