You know it is Ohio State game week when...

Sole is the impression I get year to year. Way to deflect from the rest of my argument about the urine bombs.

I really am not an inflammatory poster. But if you guys take it that way..its on you.

Not deflecting, didn't realize I was supposed to argue about the urine bombs. Especially since the specific post I responded to didn't appear to be about urine bombs.

From what I've seen, PSU fans have never particularly liked OSU or its fans. However, I never quite got the impression that OSU was the team we most hated until they split us all into divisions just a year or so ago.

If you look at OSU/PSU after the dark years, it's been a lot of back and forth. Whereas Michigan and Iowa have specifically screwed us up in huge seasons, I don't believe you guys did at all, to my recollection.

another deflection...I know they camp out for games...I was using the tent city as a point to my plausible reason for the urine bombs.

So why don't they piss bomb Temple? If camp outs make it plausible.

Dude, idk if it happened. Frankly, I don't care. I've seen worse shit (literally) happen at games and schools much smaller than OSU/PSU. There will always be morons, and if you don't think classless shit like this happens in that shit hole of a state capital you have, you're right there with them.

    MTayl72

  • Not to mention...your whole premise of the "plausible explanation" is based on OSU being our "sole rival." And thus, the assumption that we hate you guys more than anyone else. Which I think has been made clear that wasn't the case until about a year ago.

So by addressing the sole rival thing, it appears I'm addressing your explanation for the urine bombs.

  • Honestly, when PSU apologized, I took that as an admission of guilt. That is my version.

I have been reading multiple boards for over a year. I assumed that this board was different from the one I always read. I don't post over there, because idiots tear apart every syllable of a post instead of looking at the post in general. Things don't change from board to board. Back to simply reading.

Great, starting more unfounded rumors. Now the students camping out are prepping urine bombs. When will you guys just stop! It's absurd.

You can post anytime. You can freely express opinions, and I am not going to rip you for it. Honestly, I do believe this board is different. The other ones are pretty much unreadable at this point. That is why I love it over here.

As far as the admission of guilt, I do believe OSU fans were mistreated that day. I am not denying that, and I will go so far as to throw out a blanket apology to your fan base on behalf of my fan base for the crap that went on in 2005.

Honestly, though, I have a hard time believing the urine story. Thay rumor has taken on a life of its own, and at this point, no one knows the real story, yet everyone is 100% convinced its true. Not buying it...

Come to think of it, OSU is nothing U. There is nothing that program does that is more spectacular than another program in the country.

Maybe Big Ten U? But Michigan still has 8 more conference titles, so I guess they can't even claim that title for themselves.

Maybe DB...they have put some good ones in the NFL.

Tell you what ... a group of us next year should make a story up saying what OSU fans did to PSU fans ... post it all over the internet and get it to national media. Your President would be forced to make an apology, even if it didn't happen - admitting guilt. See? This is what happened when OSU fans deflected a loss in Happy Valley with the Urine Bomb story. Amazing, since you think OSU is the main rival for PSU, you have been back to Happy Valley three times since then and no incidents happened. OSU went 2-1 in those games and the one loss - OSU wasn't a player in the national title. Call it ironic?

So then my question would be...how would the PSU higher-ups (ones doing the apologizing) know that it happened?

If OSU claims something happened, which is easier: 1) believing them, apologizing and moving on, or 2) PSU telling them "well, not sure we believe you, let's see if anyone comes forward and owns up to it"?

  • OSU has certainly had a number of DBs drafted, but how many of them turn out good or great? As a Bills fan, I know that Ashton Youboty didn't work out at all, and Donte Whitner was OK, but nothing special.

I'm confident even a more recent school like LSU would qualify for DB U before OSU.

Maybe OSU can claim "Underachieving U" - they get plenty of guys drafted, but hard to spot many that really make a difference.

Hey guys. I have a legit question for you. Many OSU fans feel OSU is LBU and I know PSU considers itself LBU. Just curious, because I don't know the answer to this question, but who are the last 5-10 dominant LBs that have played at PSU and have gone on to be dominant in the NFL as well. Thanks.

Why would you DV a good question. I wasn't being a dick. I just don't know the PSU players. WTF.

We are the ones that got the moniker from national media outlets based on the program's ability to produce great linebackers. PSU didn't coin itself LBU - like you and your fans are trying to put the label on yourself, ESPN did along with others. It's time you guys start accepting that. Based on the play of your linebackers the last two years compared to our's, I'm not sure you can make that claim.

You guys seem very fragile with this every year.

First of all, I don't give a shit about the moniker of "linebacker U". So, I don't care if you go there or not. I'm not debating it because its a stupid argument. I just didn't know who the LBs have been and I thought you guys could answer the question. In addition to that though, in your reply, you said "Based on the play of your linebackers the last two years compared to our's, I'm not sure you can make that claim." If I was going to debate this, I sure as hell wouldn't base it on the last two years. And I'd be shocked if you did as well. That would be equally as ridiculous as me coming back here in 2016 saying, Ohio State is LBU because of the last four years (of PSU recruits/talent). Unless you guys do a hell of a job recruiting, and I think it will be better than most people estimate, it would be a really difficult argument to have for PSU fans. So, basing it on the last two years isn't even a valid point.

There have been a few names I've recognized in replies to my OP, but most I don't recognize (of PSU players). If you asked me the same question, I'd easily name several, such as AJ Hawk, Bobby Carpenter, Chris Spielman, N'ail Diggs, Pepper Johnson, Steve Tovar, James Laurinaitis, ... but here's a little more detail. (detail credit to Zeuslerus, Bucknuts.com)

    1. Randy Gradishar (1971-73; All-Pro 7 times in 10 yrs.; played in 1 Super Bowl; 2-time All-American)

    3. A. J. Hawk (2002-05; All-Pro 1 time in 7 years; won 1 Super Bowl; 2-time All-American; team MVP; nat. champ.)
    4. Pepper Johnson (1982-85; 13 years in the NFL; won 2 Super Bowls; All-American)
    5. James Laurinaitis (2005-08; 4 yrs. in the NFL; 3-time All-American; Butkus, Nagurski, and Lott winner)
    6. Tom Cousineau (1975-78; 9 yrs. pro in CFL and NFL; 2-time All-American; team MVP)
    7. Steve Tovar (1989-92; 8 yrs. in the NFL; 2-time All-American)
    8. Ike Kelley (1963-65; 7 years in the NFL; 2-time All-American)
    9. Na'il Diggs (1997-99; 12 years in the NFL; All-American)
    10. Matt Wilhelm (1999-02; 8 years in the NFL; All-American; national champion)
    11. Marcus Marek (1979-82; 3 yrs. pro; All-American)
    12. Andy Katzenmoyer (1996-98; 3 yrs. in the NFL; All-American; Butkus winner)
    13. Jim Laughlin (1977-79; 8 yrs. in the NFL; team MVP)
    14. Bobby Carpenter (2002-05; 7 yrs. in the NFL; national champion when he lettered his freshman year)
    15. Dirk Worden (1966-68; team MVP; national champion)
    16. Mark Stier (1966-68; team MVP; national champion)

PSU was given LBU by the media and is generally agreed upon by everyone. That's a title that was earned over the years, not something we claimed after having a few good LBs.

Another thing OSU stole from another school (or is trying to), is from "THE" U (Miami). When did OSU become "THE" OSU? It's just a small thing but let's not pretend OSU's ever been as dominant as Miami was when people started calling them "THE U."

First of all chief, it sounds like you certainly care about the moniker, otherwise, you wouldn't be going on this rant and make this list. Second, I'm not basing anything off the last two years, but I know a jilted LB at OSU is making comments about OSU being LBU. I was basically saying based on the last two years, I wouldn't be making such comments if I were Mr. Shazier because PSU's LBU moniker has strengthened over OSU, not deteriorated.

Again, you come here with little education about PSU linebackers. Do research before dropping in. It's not hard.

Your list goes four deep to me. Major drop-off after Pepper Johnson. Please, don't try to prop up Cousineau as a great pro player. You are trying to do the same with many others that really were insignificant.

Well, this is going to sound boring and intellectual, but by using the word "The" before Ohio State is correct grammar. Ohio State is not being used as a noun, it is being used in a possessive form, referring to the word "state", so as to say "the University belongs to the state of Ohio" - because it is a state school) hence (without the caps to make a point) The ohio State university. Many people take this as if OSU fans are saying they are THE shit. But I can assure you that is not the intent. Now, some fans that may be idiots and probably didn't even go to OSU wouldn't understand what I just said. lol.

Anyway, it isn't used in a sense as if to have "arrived"... it is possessive in it's use. For example, since it is a state school and as state schools go, receives state funding, you could say, OSU belongs to the "people" of Ohio. Using that in place of "Ohio", you would say The "People's" State University, to infer possession by the "people" of Ohio.

Don't know if that as boring enough for you, but I tried. Cheers.

My interpretation of "THE" OSU has always been that they (meaning the players/fanbase) felt the need to try and distinguish themselves from OHIO University and Miami of OHIO...Miami (Fla) started THE U moniker following the Schellnberger regime when they were winning NCs, sending entire classes (it seemed) into the NFL and thugging their way into the mainstream. IMO, the last five or six years have relegated that moniker for those older veterans that remain in the NFL. Fewer and fewer Hurricane players are using it (thankfully).

I honestly do consider OSU the closest thing to a rival in the B1G 10, primarily because of the proximity, recruiting wars, fanbase, and history of games since we came into the league. That's what college football is all about, and why there is an OHIO STATE week, in Happy Valley and PENN STATE week in Columbus.
