Would they start?

  • Just an interesting time-waster that I picked up from the FSU site. They listed a number of Seminoles during their 'down period' in the last decade and asked if they would start today. Thought I would comb through the 'Dark Years' rosters and see who could be a starter at Penn State today. I did not count a few of the first round picks from the 2002 season (LJ, Bryant Johnson, Jimmy Kennedy, Michael Haynes) and some of the more prominent players (Levi Brown, Tamba) because they would be too easy.

Just a fun little exercise, give it a look if you have a second. At the very least, it will have you thinking football. If you want to add or substitute someone, be my guest. Believe it or not I had a tougher time finding wide receivers than fullbacks or tight ends.

A simple yes or no beside the players name would suffice.

    QB - Zack Mills
    RB - Eric McCoo
    FB - Sean McHugh
    WR - Tony Johnson
    WR - Gerald Smith
    WR - Maurice Humphrey
    TE - John Gilmore
    OT - Gus Felder
    OT - Chris McKelvy
    OG - Charles Rush
    OG - Tyler Reed
    C - Joe Iorio

    DE - Lavon Chisley
    DT - Anthony Adams
    DT - Ed Johnson
    DE - Bob Jones
OLB - Derek Wake (college version)
    MLB - Shamar Finney
    MLB - Gino Capone
    OLB - Deryck Toles
    CB - Alan Zemaitis
    CB - Bryan Scott
    Saf. - Yaacov Yisrael
    Saf. - Shawn Mayer

  • This is definitely interesting because I feel like we're in a valley in terms of talent on the team. FSU, on the other hand, has had great recruiting classes and should have a bunch of talent.

I'll be honest, I don't remember a lot of these players (I watched games, but didn't follow it really closely until a few years ago) so I will refrain from participating.

Idk about the entire secondary because of Amos.

But I would add in Iorio, Tony Johnson, and Gilmore at TE (for this year).

Haha thank you. He was horrible in college. I can't believe anybody said yes to him. I too have always been puzzled as to how he turned out so well in the pros. Kicking one of the most challenging stadiums in the league to boot.

I agree. Gould and Wake have both been complete headscratchers for me in their NFL careers.

I blame Jay's coaching. Pro coaches must have straightened him out.
