Wins stripped from Paterno, PSU

The NCAA took away 111 of Joe Paterno's 409 career victories as part of its sanctions against Penn State.

  • 409 will last forever. Don't care what the NCAA did. Everyone will always know that Joe is the D1 wins leader. I watched a team that did no wrong win those games.

  • Who the hell cares about Joe Paterno's win total?

The guy was part of a 4 man cover up (likely the ring leader) that just destroyed our football program for at least 10 years.

  • JoePa did wrong and deserved to have them revoked.

This is the punishment that really shows they did not even bother to review the little facts that are actually at hand. back to 1998? Se we can blame the psychologists and Ray Gricar for losing wins from 1998-2000? Is this real life????

Oh right, guess that's why he was charged and convicted in a court of law, rather than the court of public opinion.

  • It should be from 2001 as 98 was investigated by police and the DA and nothing came out of it.

    getmyjive11

  • Exactly....about the 1998 vs 2001. Unless the NCAA has a lot we dont know about....the freakin LAW enforcement said 1998 was no issue. How can the NCAA basically over ride law enforcement and say that incident counts as somethng? They have opened up a can of worms.

Last I checked, he was alive when guys like Curley and Schultz were charged. Am I wrong on that?

That well tailored response ignores the fact that he wasn't charged with anything while alive, whereas others were. True you can't take the deceased to court, but many disgusting people out there have no problem speaking ill of the dead with no basis in fact.

  • Should have gone from the 01 and forward since '98 seems to have been handled correctly.

Either way the wins don't really mean anything - that's always been a stupid thing. I remember driving to the Orange Bowl. I remember the overtime win. This is the least of the punishments

We've talked about it plenty before. PSU fans, immediately after this stuff came out in November, set up a goal for PSU alumni to donate 500K to RAINN, which succeeded.

Just because you visit here on the day the NCAA hands down sanctions and we're talking about football doesn't mean we don't care about the kids.

I can assure you that PSU fans have done more for children than you have.

Do you, honestly, believe that people are just out to get Joe Paterno? The guy was revered in Happy Valley and throughout the entire country. Respected by EVERYONE. But now people are just suddenly are out to get him? C'mon man...you gotta wake up.

  • As a Texas Longhorn fan, having never set foot on the Penn State campus, my sympathy goes out to Penn State fans and alumni. I can't imagine what you guys are going through emotionally. To go from "one of the good guys" program to where you are now must be devastating. I can only hope that maybe 5 to 10 years from now, history will remember the 50+ years that Coach Paterno ran one of the cleanest and best programs in the country. To think that the "Barry Switzers and Jackie Sherrills of the world" might be remembered in a better light is unbelievably unfortunate. Good luck moving forward with this.

  • What happened to you guys suck. Straight up. I think your leaders are weak for rolling over and agreeing to the penalties. I dont know if there is a possibility that you guys file action in court for an injunction or not, especially since PSU powers that be agreed to it - essentially they agreed to a waiver. But the NCAA arbitrarily hammered you guys, bullshit.
Sandusky is horrible, and should rot; but your school did not deserve this, at least without your due process to challenge what was in that Freeh report. Str8 bullshit. And you know how we Trojans feel about the NCAA.

Dont worry, word is all arrested from '98 on by the police department and incarcerated will be released. I mean, thats how these things work right? Nothing counts from that time the monster fools ya on.

Seriously though, only the truly ignorant or jealous will be acting as if there werent 409 on field victories, with no competitive advantage, at Penn State University under Joe's coaching tenure. Trolls be trollin means trolls be recognizing even if they are denying it.

I always find these types of comments absolutley ridiculous. When we look to comment on the topic at hand do we always need to preface it with the standard disclaimers of caring about the victims/kids before we make our point? As others have said, we have talked about this plenty and have reached out to support the kids the best way we can. I haven't been on campus in 25 years but I am doing what I can and I've had serious health issues since 2005, so it is important to the fans and the school. What have you done other than spout off this quick 2 sentence comment and move on?

  • If the Joe we all knew and loved were still alive, would he give a shi! about 111 victories? I don't know the true answer to this, but I would say no. We all shouldn't care either. Penn State is bigger than even Joe Paterno, ..................( extra dots for MTayl) and we all know anyways he won those games. We don't need the damn record books to tell us that; we lived them!
