Why so high on Switzer?

  • At least for us, in this year? With all the wideouts on the roster and glaring needs elsewhere it seems like we'd only want to bring in difference makers this year at the position. Seems like a great kid, but with his size and competition I would think it would be a reach right now. Maybe a late offer if we can't fill other needs, or a grayshirt?

I don't think all the WR's currently on the roster will either stay beyond this year or stay at WR. Some will move to DB, some will transfer, some RS Jr's may just be asked to leave.

We also seemed to bring in a lot of outside, possession receivers. We need those fast, potentially game-breaking slot receivers as well. That's Switzer.

Wouldn't be surprised if we ended up taking 2-3 WR's this year. JMO.

  • Switzer is the PERFECT slot WR. Kid has pretty much everything. Great hands, speed, quickness, agility. He is Wes Welker but faster. Watch his highlights on YouTube. Kid is special. We take 2 WRs this year. Foster and Switzer and call it a day.

  • He'd definitey be a WR. I think he's the perfect type of play to play a role just like Wes Welker .

  • We need to attack the entire defense and the slot has been an area of weakness for years. With switzer and AB working the middle of the field, things will open up elsewhere and we will be a team tough to stop. Both would be huge additions IMO. I'm really excited about the direction BO'B is taking this program. I loved joe, but our program was stuck in an era and the recruits could see it - at least on the O side of the ball.

Amen. A lot of bodies, but no playmakers.

I guess that's my point. Unless we intend to "run some of these guys off", we can only afford sure-fire, bonafide, can't-miss difference makers due to the numbers. And while his highlights look great (key word highlights), they are not against top competition and there is the size issue. For sure there are 5'8" 165lb slot stars, but odds are against it. I just don't see it as a likely outcome, at least not as likely as someone who has shown what he can do against top competition and brings ALL measurables. If we are only gonna be able to bring in 1 or 2 wideouts this year as the numbers suggest, why take the risk? Maybe in a different year when need 4 or 5 guys it might be worth it to take a flyer, but just don't see it now and question the excitement.

  • Kids a top quality prospect with top programs after him. We don't have the quality playmakers on the team that he could provide. If we only take one or two, I hope he's one of them.

Really...so PSU has it's choice of the sure fire bonafide can't miss guys...no issues...they'll line up for PSU? Considering their are maybe 4-5 tops a year nationally that meet that scenario, you are not dealing with any type of reality. The PSU brand is an unknown right now for the most part. Kid has legit speed and some pretty good wiggle. If he comes great, if he doesn't...hope we find someone else who can do better. Seems to me they like him and he has an offer....hope he likes PSU.

Also need to remember that Switzer won't likely make a contribution to our team for two more years.

He could play as a true freshman, but I'd guess not.

All of this assuming he comes to PSU.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

This is a good point. I'd think he'd be a candidate for a RS. He's really small. Just looks like there isn't much to him. I do think he possesses skill, but I wonder if he can play the slot and take a pounding running into linebackers without putting on significantly more size. I'm torn on this kid. I'm interested to see if he bulks up prior to his sr season. I have no doubt he can play and contribute at some point but between the size and the huge jump in co petition, I wonder if it won't take a few years as well.

He is going to greyshirt with anywhere from 9 to 12 offers - not likely

Also, how do we know we have no playmakers? I think Z will definitely be one.

Uhhhhh it might have to do with the fact that he has the potential to be our Wes welker. Or maybe it's because of his reported 4.33 40. Or maybe it's because on top of all that, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. I'd absolutely love if he chose us.

  • We were having this argument on another board about his size and I said he looks pretty damn close to 5'9 170lbs, not 5'6 150-155lb some others were saying. His response when asked for his true height/weight: 5'9 3/4" at 170lbs

Flat out the kid can play. Watch some of his 7 0n 7 videos too, some of the best hands I have seen.

I like everything I've seen on Switzer. Speed, quickness, run after catch, natural catcher of the ball. The only question in my mind is his actual size. Even with that question I still think it is a good offer.

    Sloepoke20

  • He also appears to have more balance than other speedy receivers we know. I like the idea of Switzer in blue and white.

    pennstpete

  • Bottom line is we need WR who can catch the football. He does that. End of story. Sign him up.

Did you watch his video? Game changing abilities. He just needs to bulk up and get even faster. I think the new staff will help him make that happen...

I wonder which recruiting service the kids pay the most attention to. I suspect ESPN's (or whichever one has them ranked highest, LOL).

  • Allentown Central Catholic's Kevin Gulyas would have been a GREAT "Wes Welker" recruit this past class. Just sayin'.

  • I really like this kid regardless of his size. I think he can be utilized in many different ways (think poor man's Darren Sproles) and we finally have a staff that wiil know how to use a kid like this.
On a related note, I expect Devon Smith to have a nice season because he will finally be put in a position to maximize his ability.
