When will PSU be back?

  • I posted this in hopes that perhaps in the horrible situation instead of focusing on the negative we can start to look towards the future. I'm not fooling myself, PSU is gonna suck for a couple of years but I think if the right measures are taken we can avoid an SMU like fate. I would give BOB and his staff all 10 yr contracts to try an keep them here. If we can maintain staff continuity, we can be competitive in 6-7 years. Recruiting will be tough for probably 2-3 years but after that kids will only be missing a bowl game or too their first couple of years. We need to support this team!

  • It will be a long time. A long time.

But I will go to a game at Beaver Stadium one of these days, as I never got to see a game in Happy Valley. And it will be a good day.

2030 is very bearish. 2020-2025 is very realistic.

Its going to take a lot for 2020...2025 might make sense...We will need a cycle of top recruits...we are not USCw we can't just bringing in 5* kids like they do...

  • well lets see, im 20 now ... maybe when I am 29-30, then PSU will be back on top. Until then, after this season, we will be the equivalent to Indiana of the B1G for years to come.

While I agree PSU is not USC you do have some things going for you. First, the high school football in Pennsylvania is good and there are a lot kids that grow up dreaming of playing for PSU. Secondly, the type of kids that PSU typically attracts are tough, hardnosed kids from good, grounded families. While you will not bring in 4 or 5* kids immediately in 2016, I believe you will bring in some "diamond in the rough" type of kids over the next few years that would never have been offered by a PSU. With great coaching and strong work ethic they will play well for PSU and lay the ground work for a quicker recovery than expected. 2020 is definitely doable and maybe even a year or 2 sooner. By the way, I also live around C-bus....Westerville area.

My address is Westerville, but I live closer to New Albany off 161...

The problem is what coach wants this job? I love OB, but if he sticks out past this year...I will be shocked.

Your right, we might find some diamonds in the rough, but PA isn't Florida or Texas...we will get beat on depth issues. Plus, OSU, UofM, Notre Dame, MSU and other programs will take who they want from our state...

Temple and Pitt will get the leftovers...We are going to be signing 2* kids...some might develop, but a lot won't...I really feel bad for the B1G schools...your Strength of Schedule took a major hit...

Wake up. Colorado was NEVER PSU. Bill O'Brien will stay, the next four years will be much like the dark years, only the frustration will be over lack of depth in talent, not game planning. The starting 22 will be no worse than now, and the strategy will be far better. PSU is back to where it right now within 6 years. If it's not it's the fault of the fan base, not the NCAA. The continued strong support of the fan base will be a huge determiner of PSU's future.

  • At least we are able to hold confidence in OBs recruiting. Obviously he won't be getting many 4/5 star kids. But what I'm saying is that he seems to find the unknowns out of the ground, watches their film gives an offer and all of a sudden other teams hear about these kids watch film, offer and all of a sudden the kid is a big time recruit when all is said and done. This staff does seem to have elite evaluating skills. See Al-Rasheed Benton, Dorian Johnson, Neiko Robinson, Andrew Nelson, and Wendy Laurent.

  • 2025 give or take a year.

At the absolute earliest you're looking at 2020 with the 4 years of scholarships in each direction and rebuilding a class.

I never thought the punishment would be THIS harsh.

  • i hate to say it but probably 2025 if ever. the NCAA just kicked your ass into the dirt. the sanctions were extreme to say the least. depth will be a serious problem for years with the scholarship reductions and recruiting is gonna be awful for the next couple years.

you guys have a long road ahead and i wish you luck

  • Very likely never, at least to the level we'd hope.

The roster will be gutted, which equals few wins. This will make it tough to recruit ANYONE here. No one wants to play for a loser. It would take 4-5 years after these sanctions are done, with excellent recruitng classes, to get it anywhere near where it needs to be to be competetive. Plus, we have been somewhat average for 10 or so years.....couple that with what we will be over the next decade, and now you are talking about a generation of kids that have never seen PSU as a great football school. Throw in the coaching tunover that we are sure to have over the next 5-10 years (LJ, Vandy, Obrien will all move on), with the overall feeling of PSU and the scandal, and you have a football powerhouse that has been reduced to ruble.

Our uniforms will be next to go, along with the traditions we are all accustomed to. Erickson said it in November and got his wish today......everything is washed away.
