What's the best craft beer you've ever had?

    Kinger do you know the distribution for Fatheads? I don't make it down to the Burgh much and was hoping they would expand.

    I know there wholesaler in WPA is going to be Wilson-McGinley. So for sure, whatever regions they support will be getting Fathead's beers. I got word that cases should start hitting store shelves (in Pittsburgh) within a week or two. I inquired about getting a sixtel, and was told as of right now all kegs being sent to WPA are ear-marked for bars/restaurants, but they hope to change that as production increases.

    I'm 75% sure that in addition to Eastern Ohio (down to Youngstown-ish) and Western PA, they were also hoping to enter the Central PA market. But I can't remember where I read/heard that, and I just checked my e-mail thinking that it was in there before I posted this, and sadly, it is not. Still, I don't think I dreamed that up... but maybe I did.

    Fat Head’s Head Hunter IPA Coming Next Week

    (Middleburg Heights, OH) – In response to a huge demand from craft beer enthusiasts, Fat Head’s Brewery is proud to announce the release of Head Hunter IPA in draft and bottles in Ohio and Western PA.

    Head Hunter is a perennial award winner in the toughest category at the most prestigious events like the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup. Production will not be limited to Head Hunter but will include Sunshine Daydream Session IPA, Bumble Berry Ale, Güdenhoppy Pilsner and a slew of ales, lagers, Belgian-Style ales, seasonal brews and some barrel-aging as well.

    Until now Fat Head’s beers were produced at their brewpub, which opened in 2009 in N. Olmsted, OH but the success and demand of these award winning ales and lagers led to this expansion. Fat Head’s production facility currently has the capacity to produce 12,000 barrels annually.

  • North Country in Slippery Rock is pretty decent depending on what you get. The first time I had it was in the fall 2008 and I got a growler to go to take to Foxburg- it was all good. I was just there last April and started with whatever was in their firking keg and the rest did not seem to taste good afterwards. I do recommend their Jamaican Jerk sandwich, tender pulled pork with Jamaican relish was one of the best sandwiches I've had.

  • Gemrich: Where do you typically buy your microbrews? The Anderson's, shop off of Kenny, Ale and Wine off of Sawmill, and there is a bottle shop in Delaware that has some good selection. Just curious. I live in Delaware OH.

  • WOW psuKinger on your beer list. Almost makes me want to cry thinking how many more beers are on my to try list now. Had a budlite lime a couple of weeks ago and it is better than bud lite but that doesn't mean much.
    My summer chore beer is making a German Radler. Take half beer, I use Becks lite, and half lemonade, I prefer Trader Joes brand. Some people use half sprite. Very refreshing.
    Also try a German diesel which is half coca cola and half beer. It is better than it sounds.

    Incredibly, I probably get more beer at Meijer than anywhere else. Occasionally I head out with my neighbor to a small place with better selection, but I can get most the well known micros at the Meijer on Polaris/Maxtown. And I'm usually toting around one of my kids, and it's in a convenient location for me. Andersons is great, if I lived over on the west side I'd probably go there, but I'm in Westerville. There's a liquor store on Polaris that has an okay selection, not great, but okay.

    And I went to OWU. Delaware has certainly gotten better since I went to school (graduated in 99, wish there had been an Old Bag back then, would have lived there).

  • My wife is an OWU grad '95. The Giant Eagle across from that meijers has a decent selection plus a liquor store. I bought the best gin I have ever had last week (dif. Thread) called Caorunn. Small batch Scotish gin.
    I was in that GE and their buyer and one distributor were there and quizzed me for an hour about what to get, how to organize, just talk beer. They carry all of the Troegs and my fav White Rajah.
    My bad; I reread Maxtown and I was thinking Lewis Center Meijer.

  • Sorry guys, with all the Freeh report, leaked emails, "what did Joe know" threads popping up, I had to resurrect something that makes me feel better...

    The selections for this week are Avery White Rascal and Great Lakes Wright Pils. I like them both, but the yeast at the bottom of White Rascal scares me a little.

    Anyone have any thoughts on these?

  • I picked up a sixer of Troegs Perpetual IPA and Sam Adams Porchrocker, the other day, thinking about making a dent in one of them tomorrow. Anyone had either? I know they're two completely opposite types of beers haha

    I visited Avery a couple years ago, sampled every beer in the joint and came away very impressed. But I've never been able to find Avery in a bottle where I live.

    Wow, never heard of Porchrocker, but I'll keep an eye out for it...

    As for Perpetual IPA, got that a few weeks ago and thought it was great. Nice pickup!

    Porchrocker was light, somewhat sweet, definitely a nice summer beer for a BBQ or whatever. Had the Perpetual the other night, it was damn good.
