What about Paul Jones?

With transfer rumors flying around about seemingly every quarterback on the roster outside of Matt McGloin, where does redshirt freshman Paul Jones fit into the mix?

  • The quote by Joe doesn't exactly exude confidence in Jones IMO. PJ has been with the program longer than Bolden. Not ready to cast him aside since he is still very young, but you have to wonder ...

    Hamilton Lion

  • As long as we have McGloin, we don't need another QB.

  • Sean, do you think its likely that he leaves?

Personally the fact that he didn't say much about the situation shows some frustration, and if Joe isn't high on him he won't see much of an opportunity until McG leaves.

  • I don't really care for the attitudes of Jones and Bolden. First sign of adversity, and they immediately start to abandon ship. What happened to worth ethic, and pushing to earn your spot.

Right now, it seems like McGloin is the only one who "gets it." Sure, the other two have more natural ability than him, but they're not exactly filling me with confidence about their mental strength.

  • One of either Newsome or Jones will stay. You can pin that post up where-ever you want and call me anything you want if I am wrong. cheers

Of course you don't get their attitudes. Why? Because they are seriously thinking about leaving PSU and its football program for glaring reasons. If they stay, you are fine with their attitudes, but when whispers come out that they are thinking about it, they are soft; they are babies; they are entitled; they have no work ethic.

The only reason you think McGloin gets it is because he is not considering transferring and could be the lone ranger under center for 2011. If he considered transferring, you wouldn't like his attitude either.

The thing that should not exactly be filling you with confidence is how the position at QB at PSU has turned into a joke. It can't keep high end talent and can't develop it either.

Funny thing is if they both left, along with Bolden, you still wouldn't think there is a problem with regards to the staff. It would be all on the players.

That's not it at all. My problem is that these kids have barely been on campus, and are thinking about (or in Bolden's case, already tried to) quitting because they weren't handed the starting job.

Adversity is a big part of life, and if your solution to it is to give up and run away, well then your life is going to be a tough one littered with loads of disappointment and unmet potential both as an athlete and as a person in general.

And your McGloin comment makes no sense. If he considered transferring I wouldn't like his attitude either? Well of course. Also, if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. Guess what she doesn't, and McGloin hasn't. Classic case of a strawman argument.

Every kid that considers transferring from PSU is the devil according to fans like yourself. They have issues. McGloin would have issues if he decided to transfer from PSU for the same reason Devlin did and if Newsome and Bolden and Jones do ... why, because PSU is bigger than what is best for the kid in your eyes. They shouldn't care about what is best for them. They should throw out all dreams of getting properly coached. They should throw out all dreams of them developing. Sorry, sitting behind McGloin doesn't achieve this.

Adversity is part of life, I agree. You have to battle through it. But, when its a losing situation, different rules. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. In this instance, it doesn't matter how much you battle and how long you do - you will still be sitting behind a Division II quarterback; get little attention and reps as a second and third string for the next two years and get even less playing time except for that mop up final drive against Indiana State. I'm going to steal a comment that I saw posted that was so spot on. McGloin plays with Brett Farve mentality and has the arm strength of Ken Dorsey without the accuracy. That folks isn't a good QB at all.
