What a disgrace!

    Exactly. I caught it instantly.

They were creative with that wording. I did my moment of silence for the victims and any victim of child abuse at the Nebraska game. My moment of silence was for Joe before the game remembering all that he did for this university.

I hate to break it to you, but if you were at the game you should have seen thousands of people wearing garb that alluded to Joe. More people were pissed off at these cowards not honoring him Saturday than weren't. And again, it doesn't matter what the rest of the world thinks. It's about US!

Yes. I was at the game and I saw all the shirts. I enjoyed that the fans are choosing their own way to honor Joe and I support that but this all making my point for me. The people that care and want to remember him will do so (as evidenced by the support in the crowds on Saturday) and that is really all that should matter. We say that we shouldn't care what everyone else thinks? Well then the fact that Joe is being honored by those that mattered most to him should be all we care about. To expect anything more at this juncture is to be let down and disappointed. I wish things had been handled differently too.

My original post wasn't to praise the fans for supporting him. That's great, they should support him in any way possible. It was to point out what a disgrace it is that the school did NOTHING for him. I'm glad you caught the moment of silence for anyone in the world that didn't mention Joe, I missed it. For what he did for Penn St, do you really believe an all encompassing moment of silence without mentioning the name Paterno was appropriate? The guy should have had more than his name mentioned also. Would a video tribute have been too much to ask? Obviously it was. What can I say, I'm disgusted.

So, I guess I'll play along. First, what did you realistically expect the school to do? Second, is Joe's role in the Sandusky matter yet settled and final? Third, would such scenes have taken away from the game that was about to be played and the debut of the new staff?

Like it or not, there was no reason to be upset because you, I, and everyone else knew expressly that there would be nothing done. As well, there shouldn't be anything publicly done until after the trials when we'll hopefully learn once and for all whether Joe was complicit in any of this.

First, I expect the right thing to be done. To honor the man that has meant more to this university than any other person.
Second, sadly it appears his role in the matter has been settled and finalized by the university. I will applaud the board when it apologizes to the Paterno family and has an actual tribute to Paterno.
Third, the first two things would have done nothing to take away from the game or the new staff.

I don't like the way everything has been handled by university and I have every reason to be upset. So if nothing should be done until after the trials, Joe should not have been fired and the statue should still be standing.

How can there not be a moment of silence for JoePa at the game? He has done more for the university than the entire board put together. I know a lot of you will disagree with me, but the lack of respect for Joe was more upsetting to me than the loss to ohio. The bot/erickson should be ashamed of themselves.

Because psu has not and will never honor our tradition and past- we have been made to be ashamed of it all, and have bought into that narrative hook line and sinker. As football goes, we are a brand new team that can never hang our hat on the great accomplishments of a university and one of the finest coaches in any sport.

Very well said and pretty much how I feel at this point, too.

Of course I was at the game.

I don't know the exact words, but the announcer spoke for a good 20-25 seconds before the moment of silence.

One line was something like "we have all lost something over the past months"...

They didn't specifically say Joe's name...but like I said they definitely left it open to interpretation in my opinion...probably deliberately.

Never mentioned Joe. A proper moment of silence it was not. Not even close. I agree it was despicable. Even the folks who are anti-Joe would understand a moment of silence. Can't believe we didn't do it.

  • the real disgrace is what transpired over the last 15 years, including Joe's role in everything.

we need to put the final shovel full of dirt on that era. you know why? trying to keep the dead alive leads to zombies. Zombie no-name jerseys, Zombie Statue, Zombie Mural, Zombie Peachy Paterno. Is State College prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse?

Jeez, I thought those words were about Caroll Shelby, or my cat Ralphie.

I guess I'm not too good with code messages.
