It's a great story but the idea that it was the inspiration for the cheer is a bunch of revisionist history.
I'd not use the term "revisionist" so loosely, but rather "history(1947) meets 1977 (coincidentally)". It truly has unique origins, is inspirational, and both origin stories give me goose bumps too.

Lar is correct, Triplett tells a great story, but it is revisionist history.

A great read! My mother worked for Ridge Riley when she was editor of The Penn Stater. I've known John Black since I was a teenager some 35+ years ago.
Interesting how the cheer actually evolved and was inspired not only by USC, but OSU and Kentucky cheers too.
