Way too early prediction: PSU in a BCS game next year

  • The team will rally behind the new coaches. Plus this team will channel all the neg vibes from last season and shut people up. Yes, I know a QB and others need to emerge. But mark it down. Gonna happen next season. Peace out.

  • Pass me whatever u are drinking.

No qb. Questionmark on OL. No playmaker WR. No TE. Losing 3 DL starters. Losing 4 db starters.

There is next to no talent on this team outside of silas redd on offense and jordan hill and the LBs on defense

Good thing we play in the Leaders division this season. Who the hell in that division will have a better record than us?

Yea, BCS game is quite the leap. I'd throw in Amos though in the "talented" category.

  • A year ago who would've predicted Michigan would play in a BCS game?

It's a long shot to go BCS, but with a fifth year senior at QB, and veteran players like Redd, Brown, Hill, Stanley, Mauti, Hodges, Fortt, Carson, and Amos, and better schemes and gameplanning, we should at least be in the mix for at least a share of the Leaders Division title and a trip to Indy.

While I didn't think Michigan would be in a BCS game it was more believable then PSU in 2012. Michigans best player and biggest playmaker was their QB, the most important position in football. We have Matt McGloin.

Denard Robinson was McGloinesque in more games this year than not. He isn't a good quarterback.

Not the best QB but he's a great running back. Michigan road his athleticism to a BCS bowl.

    I'll have what you're having.

8-4 next season is optimistic, BCS game is almost impossible. Too many questions at QB and OL, and S, not to mention no depth at CB.

As somebody pointed out, we might win the Leaders division, but we will get manhandled by whoever we play in the championship game.

If you're trying to compare Matt McGloin to Denard Robinson in terms of quality of football player, maybe you need to lay off whatever PennSt8er is having.

Denard isn't a great passer, but his athleticism and speed make him a threat no matter what the play call is.

And pwpitch, of course they did, why wouldn't they? It's a no brainer to see that Denard is thing that makes that team go. He's all they have really.

Then why did the UM coaching staff often take Denard out of the game for the redshirt freshman Gardner in key situations? Was I comparing them athletically? absolutely not. Denard is a playmaker no doubt and was a good QB under RR. He is not even an average QB under Hoke because of the offense change. He has to pass now, and struggles mightily doing it so yes I am comparing McGloin and Robinson as QB's. I still think Robinson is obviously better and it was an over exaggeration, but people still have this crazy idea that Robinson is a good QB. He is nothing more than average.

I agree. In my mind, there is no possibility of Matt McGloin starting the B1G Championship Game. If we are going to be successful to the level that the OP predicts, it will have to be with someone else having an out-of-nowhere unbelievable season behind center.

We really need a serviceable qb and a mother effing tough OL. The new strength regimen plus new OL coaching is a good tonic.

  • We won't go to a BCS game next year if Matt McGloin is our QB.... But if McGloin isn't our QB, then that means we improved in that position be it because of Paul Jones being eligible, or O'Brien getting the most out of the younger, talented QBs on the roster (and yes I'm even including Bench in that category, I don't care if you think I'm crazy).

Aside from that, because of the S&C program we'll have a better OL, which will do wonders for Redd and the running game as well as the rest of the offense, the LB corps should be an improvement and if, IF Thomas gets his act together then CB won't be much of an issue between him, Amos, and Morris.

It's unlikely that we go to a BCS game next year, but it's not as crazy or ridiculous as a lot of you are making it out to be. We have a weak schedule, and for the first time in 20 years we will have a competent offensive coaching staff that won't have to be bailed out by the defense every game.

This team won 9 games this past year, and I expect them as a whole to be better as a result of the offseason changes. Call me an optimist if you want.

  • again, the issue isn't Jones' grades (at least last I heard). It was the amount of credits he had completed (ie: went drop heavy early on). I think gpa, he's OK, he's just not caught up in the credits. Perhaps Pat or Sean can divulge more information.
