Maybe Cowturd should start talking to Van Pelt before littering the airwaves with the crap that spews out of his nasally voice.

  • Svp has always been high on Penn State and alwys had good fair things to say.

I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

He basically recognized how well our recruiting is going in spite of the JS situation. Said OB is doing a great job of creating a new identity while maintaining the tradition of the program. Acknowledged the DJ commit, not by name, and also acknowledged that we have a ton of talent in this class. Neither he or Ricillo (cohost and not sure of spelling) are surprised. Said 17 and 18 yer old kids aren't phased by the situation with JS.

  • Actually, he went overboard, IMO.

First, I like SVP. He's a Terp alum, and has always had good things to say about PSU, like most teams. He's the anti-Cowherd. Cowherd intends to insult. It gets callers and people to talk about him. He admits it. As a one-man show, it is his schtick.

Now, SVP was over the top about how much momentum PSU has right now, and is recruiting well. And he's not wrong. But he threw the old staff under the bus too easily to make his point that PSU is on the rise. Recruiting is OBVIOUSLY different now. In the past few years, recruiting was a very targeted group of prospects. They were identified, recruited, and landed with pretty good results. Broader net now, looking for some of the bigger fish. It is yet to be seen if it is better, but it is a bit different.

He was wrong when he said our recruiting was poor. It wasn't great, but it was far from poor. He even mentioned how we suffered in early commitments. Not that argument again.

Its what happens when the big fish say NO that will tell us more. Does BOB have any relatives or close friends with school age kids that want to play football? From indications, we're not waiting. We're offering and forming a recruiting class.

Why would Cowherd do that and jeopardize his career?

I think when people say that our recruiting has been poor, it's all in relation to what PSU should be. If we get a class ranking around 35 I think most of us would think that was inadequate or at best disappointing. If Purdue gets a class around 35, that would be pretty good.

Outside of the 2010 and 2006 classes, I think our recruiting has been subpar.

I get that, but right now I am willing to take any positive publicity - no matter if it goes overboard.

  • Everyone's favorite analyst Matt Millen was on CFB Live. They of course talked about how Smith left the team but they talked up how BOB is rebuilding this program. Millen commented on the DJ commitment.

it is overboard to say that the old staff couldnt recruit, or didnt. They didnt put in the work this staff is, but the results were there for the most part. Top 10 every 4 years, a few good players in between with a bunch of solid ones, repeat.

Last years class was headed for the top 10 before the scandal, so i beleive some have over exaggerated the lack of results of the old staff.

  • SVP is well known in the DC area and has a strong reputation as being a stand up, decent guy. He's a sports nut who wants to talk about the stuff that interests him, not get attention by playing for the shock value. Listening to him is a refreshing change from the "let me say stuff to get some people upset so they call my show" fare that occupies much of the air time on sports radio.

Seems like a nice guy but he's hard to listen to (for me). He always takes twice as many words as necessary to get his point across. It actually sounds like he knows what he's trying to say but once he opens his mouth, he loses his train of thought. So he just keeps talking in circles until it makes sense.

  • Hes the only guy at ESPN that does not abuse his power and sh*t on sports journalism/radio and all those with integrity (aka the Cowards of the world).

He was really one of the only anchor type guys on ESPN that didnt paint PSU with a black and white brush like the rest of the ESPN blowhards that said we were all child rape enablers and OMG they are rioting.

  • The old staff could recruit if they wanted too

Probably was they never tended to do it two years in a row or for even a full cycle.

August to February was usually a disaster except in in the clas of 2011 where we they had no choice bc they screwed around big time the first 6 months
