Urban Meyer = Hypocrite

  • So, I was trollin TOS Pitt's free site when I came across a thread about UM committing 46 secondary violations (I know, everyone commits them... not the point...). I gotta give the OP credit.. he linked an article a year ago from when UM was at ESPN. Just read what he said in the article about integrity and secondary violations.

    What a joke.

Solomon: Urban Meyer makes valid but hollow complaints of NCAA

Easier to speak out as ESPN talking head than active coach

  • I'm shocked liar. I really don't know how parents who do any bit of research on Meyer believe a word he says and send their kid to play for him.

  • Meyer agreed with Dakich that coaches should be fired if they are found guilty of major violations.
"That's the only answer," Meyer said. "There's a reason why people don't rob banks. The risk-reward is you're going to jail. Right now, if you commit -- they call them secondary violations, which is comical; they're not secondary -- if you commit a secondary violation, it's a slap on the hand."
Meyer is dead-on about this. The NCAA says it is now suspending coaches for secondary violations depending on the circumstances. It's the right move, if it's properly enforced and transparent.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Oh lawd. That is GOLDEN!

NCAA suspending coaches for secondary violations depending on the circumstances? Let's see it then tough guy! Is being on probation, and committing 46 of them not the proper circumstance?
LOL Urban Meyer, the NCAA, Gene Smith, "compliance" department - they're all a freaking joke.

I think the Tebow reference is a great point. IMO, the media gave UM a pass one a lot of his stuff because he had one of the most "clean" individuals on the planet playing for him at QB. Now the stuff is really starting to build up... I just don't know how you can't question the man now.

You must be shocked at how good of friends Joe was of such a man and even talked highly of him.

And if you want to complain about hypocrites look no further then many on this board. Most of whom would have been over the moon had Meyer been hired as our HC. But that's just the tip of hypocrisy on the many PSU boards.

Right, there was no friendship or praise heaped by Joe. He didn't talk of their friendship and Urbans wife's friendship with Sue. There was no love rest before the bowl game against them. But 30 years ago Joe said no to him being a GA so clearly everything after that doesn't matter.

Sour puss. I think it is a bit silly to call us (PSU fans) hypocrites when most of the bad press regarding Meyer has come out after he took the OSU job. The only thing that made even his supporters nervous was the number af arrests he had at Florida. Since then, he has shown to be a liar, cheat and a coach who's preferential treatment to certain players led to the destruction of Florida's locker room.

Let's be honest... if those things came out before he was hired, there would have been far less people supporting him as PSU's next head coach.

Right, the friendship was there. He spoke of their friendship at various wine mixers. The love was ever oozing for a coach he frequently kicked his players to the curb (something Joe obviously preached himself) because he aspired to be Urban. Winning the righteous was as he did twice at Florida. Not taking the easy way out and leaving them high and dry for the next coach. But no, something must have come over him and he said no, to a man he loved. 30 years later.

Do PSU fans really want to talk about arrests? Didn't we have a very similar amount during the time? There is nothing new about Meyer since he took the OSU jobs. Everything was out their and many people knew it. Posters like Hamilton even talked about it on here. So no, in paying attention to many on here I do not think their opinions would have changed. I've pointed out time and time again about the blatant hypocrisy and double standard of PSU fans. Many would either ignore, blame someone else or some ant PSU spin.

  • Wow, 46 secondary violations in just a few months of being on the job and recruiting for the 2012 class. That seems a bit insane, no?

So if Urban was so evil then why was Joe friends with him? Or are you really going to continue to pretend they weren't friends?

Do you like PSU? I mean you make some valid observations, but every time I see you post you're saying something negative about the program, the school, and now the fans.. shrug

No need for pretending they were "friends" as to how close we could only speculate. Joe made many close friends over 60 years he spoke highly of I don't need to tell you that read a nice article on Mack Brown and his time with Joe and Sue over the years. Talking down about another coach happened about as much as Joe said they're weren't playing a tough football team. Inferring then that Joe loved Urban because he had some nice words means he loved hundreds of others as well.

  • Did you even read the article? The secondary violations were for 21 different sports and Urban Meyer did commit a violation by telling Noah Spence "good Luck" while talking to his coach before a game. Oh, another violation was Vrabel had a dip in on the sidelines during a game....All just an ncaa joke. I would say OSU's compliance department is being way on the anal side.......
