  • According to today's Calling Card to Devon Still, he said he had the flu last week but gutted it out anyways. That was probably why he was less effective than usual.

This is weird to type but...

gemrich, would you say we won this game BECAUSE of coaching?

    In a word, yes.

I saw that after I had finished. That absolutely could explain, at least partially, why he was less effective.

  • Usually I have a bone to pick or a slight view. I agree 100% with this. Units worked better than individuals did, we schemed well, were very prepared, and still have bits to clean up.

  • At this point in the season is there anything that can be done in a week that can help our WRs improve their blocking skills. Due to their builds, I can see how Devon Simth and Derek Moye struggle. However, Justin Brown should be a good blocker!

I fell D. Lynn's play has gotten much worse since the injury? Due to the serious nature of that injury, maybe he is playing timid? Don't blame him.

What new tricks due feel the staff will pull out for the Wisconsin game?

WRs blocking is more about effort than technique. They have to want to do it. They don't need pancakes or destroy guys, just a solid effort and keep them delayed for a second or so. Some teams have their WRs cut, some just stalk block, some both depending on play. Our guys just don't do it too often

    MTayl72

  • Its strange, because I seem to remember a few years back when we had the "smurfs" as our WRs, they seemed to block pretty well and take pride in downfield blocking. Maybe it is just me though.

  • Did anybody else think it was dumb for OSU to run the wildcat? Not just because of that fumble, but every time I saw Hall and Hyde in the backfield, I was relieved. I'm more afraid of Braxton running the ball than either of those 2, plus they lose the element of a passing game. For us, getting the ball out of the QBs hands is fantastic, but it makes no sense for them.

  • The wrinkle I expect to see is drake throwing out of the wildcat
. Not even must once or twice...but maybe 3-5 times.

OSU fans in the stadium were livid. When Miller was running the speed option or getting outside the pocket, he generally was killing us. KILLING US.

And then OSU would go wildcat and I'd secretly laugh while they fumed. They were right.

  • Still and Hill didn't have an overly dominant game but I would credit them for the 2 or 3 bad snaps their center had. He was thinking about blocking those beasts instead of snapping the ball.

Ohio State was much more effective with Miller running the ball out of their regular sets than they were when they went to the Wildcat. Didn't make a whole lot of sense there, our OSU guys commented on it a few times.

  • Anyone remember the play near the goal line where it looked like McGloin could have run the ball in for a touchdown, but he decided to throw it? I think it was when Suhey step out of bounds and then came back in. Watching it live I was pissed he didn't just run it in.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

I did some damage to my throat and almost elbowed my wife in the teeth while screaming expletives at MM during/after that play. I'm eager to watch it on the replay to see if my angle was right.

I don't know that MM would've made it around the corner. He isn't Mike Vick. There was a hole there for him to turn up into but I think he would've got jacked up pretty good had he done that. OSU would've closed that gap quick and knocked him out, in all likelihood.

That was my thought as well. I didn't think it was so obvious McGloin would have made it to the end zone, personally.

I thought he had the corner ... Leading to my yelling :)

  • • When Braxton Miller completed a third and long to Devier Posey on their opening drive, there were three individual breakdowns. Hodges lost outside contain when he got cut on his blitz. Malcolm Willis for some reason hesitated and didn’t attack Miller, allowing him to get off the throw easily. Lynn couldn’t stay will Posey even though he had the sideline as help.

Looked like a Willis was spying Miller. They're taught to contain and not let him out of the pocket. If he attacks and Miller steps around him, he gives up a big run. Lynn got scorched on that play.

my thought watching it live was that he could have made it. Watching it again during the review I changed my mind, I think he made the right choice.

I don't think he couldve made the corner, it looked like a pump fake and a cut back would've been a jog into the end zone. Again, that was in real time from up in the stands. I'll see the replay tonight.

    - agree with MTay that WR blocking is more about effort than anything else.

    - hard to know what role the injury is playing, but Lynn is definitely having a rough year in general

    - agree with md154, expect to see Drake and/or Belton throw from the wildcat. It will be interesting to see how Wisconsin lines up against our wildcat.
