Even worse, I think he's the one who assumed I was an Eagles fan.

    Classic.

"My question is, why are you on this board? It is Ohio State/Michigan week and you are over here?? I understand that PSU really doesn't matter in the BIG, but shouldn't you be on your board talking about how the officials are going to screw you this week? Or maybe which one of you are going to write a letter to someone this week? So far I've seen letters sent to out concerning the officials, the BIG's conspiracy against you, the "wrongs" against PSU over JS.....Here's and idea, since your board is full of "cause" chasers, why don't you stand up, be a man, and have ALL of your posters write letters to each and every victim of Sandusky, apologizing for his crimes and asking if there is anything you can do for them? Stop worrying about JoePa, sad that his record is more important to you guys than the victims of the crimes. And face it, EVERYONE involved with the football team knew about JS....don't be so ridiculously homered.....JoePa knew, the AD knew, the Pres knew, every coach on the team knew."

So was this douchey post him or his twin?

  • The only reason I feel he would have for leaving is to move to a big city where his son could get cutting edge healthcare. Both Philly and Cleveland have excellent healthcare facilities.

  • He's gone after this year...stamp it. New England after they win another Superbowl and the hoodie retires into the sunset.

All you fighters who feel that he will stay can rehash this thread after next season. Unless we go 5-12 or something.

Later...hoping for some recruiting news now.

I don't think B.O.B will go, this year. My question is since he evidently looked around this year, and was willing to "possibly" leave, after just one year, do you guys see it as he's gone when that "one job" comes along? Whether it's next year, or the next, etc...

Will it make recruits in the 2014 class have 2nd thoughts about if their coach will be at PSU their 4 years?

Just a couple things that would be on my mind if it was Urban.... I know I'd hate to go year to year wondering if this is the year he bolts...

There are some pretty good jobs out there this year that are attractive to almost any coach - Bears, Chargers(who wouldn't want to coach in SanDiego), Arizona, Philly - these are all teams that can easily turn it around in a season or two. If he didn't take an NFL job this year, than that's TWO years now he's turned down the NFL.

What will be said behind closed doors to the team will be very telling, and unfortunately, we'll never know, but I don't view this as a negative at all. He told the Browns, who were supposedly enamored with him, that he's HAPPY at PSU. If there was ever a time to bolt, now could be it. BOB is not a stupid man. He realizes what a mess like this could cause for him, and for recruits - even if his plan the whole time was to return to PSU. He obviously did what he did with some different intentions in mind, and from putting the pieces of the story together so far, it seem like a power play on the part of the O'Brien camp to get something out of PSU - which may have actually worked. If he doesn't like to work under Joyner, maybe some concessions were made to improve that relationship, or eventually have Joyner replaced by a real AD - who knows. But, it does appear this was a very planned out process by Bill and his agent, and it really may have worked to benefit both he and PSU football.

As for the damaged relationship with the current players and recruits, I just don't see it. I think things are different on the inside, and most of what guys like AB and Hack were saying this whole time, point to this as well. For future recruting, I think this helps more than it hurts. Being able to tell recruits that you were coveted by some major NFL programs, but chose to stay at PSU, speaks volumes to his abilities. Sure, maybe he could leave in the future for the NFL, or maybe not, but so could Nick Saban, Chip Kelly, Charlie Weiss, Chris Peterson, Les Miles, etc, etc, etc - and it doesn't seem to hurt their recruting.

  • Here's Sam Donnellon's story from this morning's Philly Daily News. Here's an excerpt....

At one time, nobody thought much of Pete Carroll's and Bill Belichick's coaching ability. For every successful assistant-turned-head coach, at least 10 fail to make the jump. Bill Parcells once said a coach should not stay in the same place in excess of 5 years. He was talking about professionals. You do it right in college, you can stay there forever.

Penn State football coach Bill O'Brien would have been crazy to come to the Eagles

PENN STATE'S Bill O'Brien is the best professional head-coaching prospect out there. He has successful pro experience with the franchise every other NFL franchise wants to be like and was stunningly successful amid the worst of circumstances in his first season as Penn State's head football coach. That he did this amid national, if not worldwide, media scrutiny answers that question as well.

Him leaving next year is much different to this program than him leaving this year. I'd explain it, but I know that it has been exxplained to you before so I guess it hasn't sunk in.

And 5-12 next year? Good call.

That's a great article and he's right; The way he is conducting himself (save for the interviewing), he is literally doing no wrong. He's just about the king of PA. He goes to high schools and the coaches/fans/players are asking for autographs.

On top of that, he's just claimed a lot of power. He commands the roster, the players. He dictates it all. The NFL? That's not always true. The coaches don't get to always pick the draft picks, they don't always drive the decisions.

Whatever happens the next 3 years, if he handles himself the way he has been... the results will NEARLY be irrelevant. He could average 6-6, 7-5 for the next 3 years and I think overall the fans would be satisfied. 8-4 is a damn good year!

But what happens if he goes to Philly or Cleveland? Easy, you go 8-8 or 9-7 3 years in the row and don't make the playoffs? You're on your ass.

Exactly. This year is by FAR the most critical year.

  • With all the money I have, I was able to pay Tom Brady to use his lions247 account to make the following statement:

    WHERE IS THE LOVE!?

I just payed Bill O'Brien $1.5 million ( the reports of 1.3 million is a lie) to stay at PSU, and you guys don't even think about mentioning my name or saying Thank You!??

Contrary to what some of you may believe, Bill wants to stay at PSU for the foreseeable future. But Bill would also like some more say in the athletic department, and wants more guaranteed money. He was just doing his due diligence.

And don't worry about the recruits.. he let the big name guys know exactly what he was doing.

Ok.. let me get back to my oil rig
