    Yep. That's the difference. He signed Leon McQuay III as an EE just before... McQuay took his spot, not a senior needing to get his degree. Kiffen is scum.

    We could very easily be in that situation in a couple of years so I wouldn't be so quick to throw USC under the bus.

    However, one thing we've consistently seen is that O'Brien is very open and honest with recruits about the entire process.
    Also, if he were in this situation, I can guaran-damn-tee you he would not tell the kid who's been committed all year that he has to wait til fall.
    He will tell that to the one who came on board last and try to work it out that way.

    It's the same thing with the whole Sun Bowl dinner. Yeah, your plane was late - you still could've been on time if you hadn't decided to practice up until dinner time. Lane expects the world to stop for him and if any little thing goes wrong, the world has to change for him and not the other way around. That's the big difference between the two. You can bet your ass OB wouldn't have decided to blow off a bowl dinner just to practice the fade route for the 16th time - and he damn sure wouldn't tell a kid who committed for a whole year and is set to move in in 3 days to stay home in favor of the "higher rated" stud who put the school's hat on 3 days ago.

    That's one story. Another story is that a senior who was expected to graduate didn't. I don't know which one is more accurate. Regardless, the second scenario is easily one that we could get caught in down the road.

    If the second scenerio is true, I would give him a pass... But either way, he took McQuay as an EE and told this kid the boat was full when he was set to move in... Dick move either way.

    I still wouldn't give him a pass. If BOB were to talk to a senior and it was agreed upon that he would not be back for a 5th year (either by going to the draft or simply moving on from football), then I would hold the kid to that agreement. Make sure it is absolutely what the kid wants and then move on. And of course, you don't have that discussion until the end of the season.

    It appears both occurred. But instead of telling the latest commit, McQuay that as the last one in has to wait until next semester to enroll, he lets him in and pushes back a kid committed for months. He simply screwed over a lesser prospect for a blue chipper. Plenty of people are ok with it because it can help them win by securing McQuay. I find it to be dirty pool, plain and simple.

  • From what I've seen and read from USC fans, they seem completely unable to get their heads around the idea that they have made a huge downgrade in coaching from the days of Carroll and Norm Chow, two of the all time great coaches on the same staff. Now they have a staff of recruiters who cannot coach. The main problem is that Ed Orgeron will be outcoached by every coach in America. They will have a very hard time stopping decent offenses with good coaches, and it will probably just get worse if they keep the mentality that the game is 99% recruiting and 1% coaching.

    But they had been telling the "blue chipper" that they had room for him all along - and they did until the senior didn't graduate. They just didn't realize they were in a "last person to commit" situation. Somebody, either the "blue chipper", the returning senior, or Fitts, was going to get the short end of the stick. I would hypothesize that no matter who it was, this board would be calling for Kiffen's head. It's an unfortunate situation. When you've got 85 scholarships to play with, you've got a little leeway. But when you are under restrictions, like USC and PSU are, you have to play things pretty tightly with the ships and these situations become much more likely to happen.

    Remember, we did a similar thing with Jordan Norwood a few years ago. We had him delay his fall enrollment and become a greyshirt..
