US Senator Toomey...

  • In response to an email I sent encouraging his support for PA against the NCAA sanctions. Did I miss something or is he on our BOT, smh.

Thank you for contacting me about Penn State University. I appreciate hearing from you.
I understand your concerns regarding the sanctions levied by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) against Penn State and value your input on this issue. Although these penalties will never fully repair the unconscionable damage inflicted on the victims of the Sandusky scandal and their families, I believe they represent an important step toward establishing accountability and reform.
Now that the NCAA has rendered its decision, I hope that the Penn State community can begin to move forward and the victims can continue on the road to healing. Since the sanctions were handed down, I also have spoken with Penn State President Rodney Erickson about this matter and will continue helping the university move forward. In spite of this incident, I am confident that Penn State will remain a world-class university and an important institution for all Pennsylvanians.
As you have noted, on January 2, 2013 Governor Corbett filed a lawsuit against the NCAA, arguing that the NCAA violated antitrust laws by imposing these sanctions on Penn State in connection with the Sandusky scandal. The case, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, is currently pending before the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. While I do not want to comment on pending litigation before the courts, I do believe that the funds obtained from Penn State via NCAA sanctions should be used to help people right here in Pennsylvania.
Thank you again for your correspondence. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of assistance.
    Sincerely,

    Pat Toomey
    U.S. Senator, Pennsylvania

  • I get so sick and tired of the "Move forward" comment. It would be like if my boss fired me, and then said "I know this is unjust and i understand you are upset, but just keep moving forward and the pain and suffering will go away in time."

If something happens that is unjust to you, you move forward by fighting for what is right.

Time to email back one more time telling him that "you respect his opinion, but you feel it is time for you to move forward with your vote to whomever opposes him in his next election cycle and will encourage other Penn State alums to do so as well. "

  • This is bullshit. I hope the good people of PA don't ever vote for this guy again.

I hope everyone in the "move on" club has something unjust happen to them or their families.

You will get the same response from Bob Casey. Probably doesn't matter though, he just got re-elected and no one cared.

  • Sometimes it feels as if the leaders of our country are nothing more than robots. These are not real people. They are all just programmed with the same ridiculous responses that fit into the lease risky public narrative, like its based off of some kind of algorithm that is programmed into them or something. Toomey, Peetz, Erickson, Frazier...are these people even human? Have we been taken over by robots without even knowing it?!! Ahhhhhhhh!!!!

I'm not a PA resident but it is scary to me that this is the attitude of the PA "leadership"...This is not a black and white issue. Because of the nature of the Sandusky crimes people in power are afraid to voice an opinion that might not jibe with the media narrative. How the F do penalties against the Penn State football team "represent an important step toward accountability and reform"??! Sounds like Lanny Davis wrote that little snippet for him...

Seems like a bad reason not to vote for someone. Corbett is a different case as he was very involved in what happened, then blasted psu, then pulled a 180 to save face. Toomey just gave a canned response that is riddled with political speak. I'm not a Republican, so I can't say I care for Toomey all that much, but IMO this is not a great reason to vote against the guy.

  • "I believe they represent an important step toward establishing accountability and reform." - Really? Please explain how bowl bans, vacated wins, and scholarship reductions does any of those things. Reforms would have taken place w/o NCAA sanctions. And who is accountable? The football team? Complete BS.

  • He and Casey are too busy screwing things up in DC to personally have time for this issue. Best to focus your efforts at the state and local levels. Neither of these two Senators are responding personally to your e-mails whereas you may get a personal response at the state level.

I agree that shouldn't be the only reason to vote for him. However, he is elected to represent PA residents. Many don't care about Penn State, but the only recourse an individual citizen has is to let their opinion be known.

This would represent a small factor in my vote (my largest would be my business). Letting him know your displeasure is important.

    PSUGrad91

  • I hope you guys really don't expect politicians to get involved with our scandal…seriously, for anyone outside of die hard PSU fans, this is a lose lose situation in backing PSU.

Here's the deal here. This is a complete slam and slap in your and, by extension, all the citizens of Pennsylvania's face. One thing that has always been a curiosity to me is the extent to which people in the Midwest circle the wagons - and the lack of this approach in the east. I lived in the east (NJ, Baltimore, eastern PA) for all my growing up years and moved out to the plains and to Chicago when I was in my 30s. Having people in your own state NOT supporting the Flagship institution is simply not possible in a states like Kansas, Ohio, Nebraska, etc, etc. There would be unanimous of support, and an outcry of immense proportions that would DEMAND that the pro-University side be heard. You simply would not be able to get away with this "..You just don't get it.." BS coming from these dolts that have not spent one ounce of effort informing themselves on the subject and moving from their comfortable assumptions of all that happened at PSU - Least of all from a clown that expects to get votes from the good people of Pennsylvania. The old tar & feathering and running the guy out of town on a rail should be instituted for these modern isolated Kings...

A republican in PA, and against the lawsuit? Does he not want to win? LOL

Ask the Democrat candidate for his seat in a few years his stance. I'm guessing it will be very similar. It's political speak. It would be a mistake to take a strong position for or against the sanctions, so he focused on the victims and the future for PSU. I'm not voting for him either way, but this has nothing to do with it. I'm guessing you weren't gonna vote for him either...
