I'd rather give Iowa all they can handle, at least both teams have something to play for biggrin

  • I never thought it would be possible, but for some reason I think Halloween Weekend of 2012 is gonna be the best one yet & top that of 2011. That was the craziest weekend of my life! Hopefully it doesn't snow 6" before the game this time around...

BTN only has PSU/Iowa at night that weekend, so I'd imagine it will be everywhere that has BTN.

  • Got to be kidding me with some of these games. How does Indiana have so many primetime games? Indiana State at IU? Utah State at Wisconsin? Ball State at Indiana? Louisiana Tech at Illinois?

ESPN has the contract rights with the B1G so they basically get to pick which games they want and when and then the remaining games are shown on the BTN. Basically, the primetime games on the BTN are the games ESPN didn't want and then the BTN wants to give the other B1G schools some primetime exposure.

  • No ABC Prime game and the OSU game buried at 6p on ESPN or maybe even ESPN2. Could Disney be any more transparent in how far away from us they want to be?

The only game worthy of ABC (and not in November since no night games in November) is OSU/PSU, which happens to be the same day as another mega matchup in Nebraska/Michigan. Difference is, both of those teams have something to play for whereas only one of PSU/OSU does. I'd say this was expected. We got a night game that week over Wisconsin/MSU, which is nice.

Unfortunately one of the side effects of this whole mess. Companies like Disney/ESPN play everything ultra-safe so they are aren't gonna put themselves in a position where they look like they are supporting PSU too much. This is why I hope that when the contract with ESPN is done, that the B1G signs a deal w/ FOX to show our games. It would be a big F U to ESPN!

Not sure I follow what you mean by UNL/UM both having something to play for, but us and OSU wouldn't???

OSU is not eligible for a bowl. More rides on the UNL/UM game for a leg up in the other division.

OSU can't play in the Big Ten championship as part of their tatgate punishment.

Gotcha. I doubt that factored in with them, though. They care about eyeballs and dollars, and if they thought our matchup would produce more they'd put our game in Primetime no matter what OSU was playing for. I just think if most things are equal, they'll avoid us.

You'll notice those games are at the beginning of the season when most BIG teams are playing pansies or, if not, are being featured in bigger regional/national games. Since Indiana and Illinois don't play in prime time very often, they get their shot early in the season.

You think Ohio v. Penn State would be anything other than a noon kick?

It's also more likely UM and UNL has more national interest. Both teams are more likely to play in a BCS game than PSU and OSU. I disagree that most things are equal here. Also, if it's only about eyeballs and dollars, why would they bypass PSU because of some bias if it will make them the most money? They probably think UM/UNL will make them more money, so they featured it.

Not at all...I just figured there would be something, anything better than ISU/IU (I consider Ohio vs. PSU to be much better, in fact, given Ohio's success last year). Indiana has 3 primetime games. Seems a bit much.

Yea, but notice those 3 night games are all on BTN. Those are games that ESPN/ABC did not want for their noon, 3:30, or 8pm slots. ESPN/ABC get the first picks. BTN just picks up the scraps. So, those Indiana games may be the best of that bunch. Who knows. Playing at 3:30 on ABC/ESPN is much better than playing at 8pm on BTN.
