Looks like its already a done deal.

  • Damn...this is a big bummer. We desparately need bodies now to fill out our roster. We went from being full to only have 9 guys.

  • a loss, but not a big loss. I have little doubts Chambers can fill his spot with a better talent this year and the next.

This is a significant loss. We were counting on him being a pretty big contributor next season and losing him will create a void on the depth chart. Replacing him with something better this year is unrealistic. As good a recruiter as Chambers has been so far, this still isn't a major program that top prospects will jump at at the last minute.

this isn't a significant loss at all imo. Anyone that looks at things objectively knows we aren't/weren't going to make the NCAA tourney next year...if Chambers can fill his spot with a more talented player, which I'm confident he can do, then the future looks all the brighter.2013 and 2014 seasons are where Chambers/PSU will make major major headway. Thorpe/ Austin/ Taylor/ Hopefully Jeter/ Maybe Devon Reed or another 2 guys Chambers can recruit. Our talent level is rising daily. As I said, Lewis is a definite loss. Not a significant loss.

Stress fracture in his back. Missed 12 games and never really got back into the flow when he played at the end of the year.

  • to be honest I was expecting Lewis to be much better than what he showed ths year. Not a major loss at all Chambers now has a few open scholarships at his disposal.

  • Sorry if already mentioned, but what about that transfer from Mississippi or Miss St or some SEC school. Will he still be ready to go next year? Sorry I can't think of his name. Sitting in a hotel room in Somerset off the turnpike, and really tired and have not scrolled through everything. :-)

  • From the athletic department:

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.; MARCH 15, 2012 – Penn State freshman guard Trey Lewis (Garfield Heights, Ohio) has been granted a release to transfer from the Nittany Lion basketball program.

“Trey and I met after the conclusion of the season and the result of those conversations was that we both felt it would be best for him to continue his career at another program,” Penn State coach Patrick Chambers said. “Trey is a skilled player and a nice young man. We wish him the best as he moves forward with his career and we will assist him however we can in finding the right fit for him.”

“I would like to thank my teammates and coaches for the past season at Penn State,” Lewis said. “I had a great experience at Penn State and learned a lot with the opportunity to play in the Big Ten as freshman.  After thinking about my future, I think it is best for me to move on and continue my career at a program that may be a better fit for me.”

Lewis played in 20 games in an injury plagued freshmanseason that saw him miss games with an ankle injury and a 10-game stretch through January and February with a stress fracture in his lower back. Lewis averaged 18.7 minutes per game and made six starts on the year, his first on the Penn State campus. He posted averages of 5.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game while making 25 threes on the year.

I agree. This is definitely a loss moving forward. He would have been the best pure shooter on the team, #2 point guard and counted on to play major minutes next year(likely off the bench). This move doesn't make the team better next season. Hopefully the staff can put the 'ship to good use. Oh well. It is what it is I guess.

    Sloepoke20

  • This is significant. Chambers has himself his first real setback.

    bonovoxpsu

  • Wow....I don't understand why people don't think this is a big loss. The kid was a true freshman this year and I thought played decent. He was only going to get better. Big loss if you ask me.....hopefully Pat can fill his position with a decent player.

    CharlestonLion

  • should we be concerned about chambers losing this many players? i get the "carefrontations" with the less talented guys, but lewis was expected to be a major contributor next season. what's the deal?

    craztch

  • Lewis had attitude problems that have been documented

    PSU12

  • You guys are a trip. Significant loss? He averaged 5 point per game. Best shooter....seriously, how many 3s did he make this year....5? Not a loss at all. Lewis, at best is an A10 player and for a middle of the pack A10 team. No worries here, Chambers knows exactly what he's doing and all of these departures will only help him get the team that he wants.
