I was always in the Stoops camp once I heard he may be interested.
I still think Dan Mullen would have been a very good hire for PSU, certainly better than what we ended up with.
I kept saying that we had our guy, for that I apologize. I obviously was very wrong.

I think it was Petersen. He makes the most sense, time-wise. Yes, his season ended way back on December 22, but that was right before the holiday. My guess is, and this is pure speculation, that IF he talked to PSU, he probably told them he wanted to enjoy the holidays with his family and he'd get back to them in the new year. Then yesterday, he re-upped with Boise State. Today, reportedly, Bill O'Brien is named. Seems kinda sudden, even though Schefter said he was the guy earlier in the week. I think THAT was smokescreen. This time, it's real.

I don't believe there is any way PSU was going to get into a bidding war for a guy like Saban or Stoops or Gruden and end up with one of the highest paid college football coaches in the country when they are trying to stress education. I believe they were looking for a quality coach at a reasonable salary. I think Petersen was the guy and it fell through.
