To all the PSU fans who have not joined 247 yet.......

  • As some know I was a long time subscriber on a site Sean used to work for..... up until 2 days ago I was always a lurker here never a subscriber. I thought about it and finally took the plunge and came to 247. I am freakin LOVING IT!! I have spent the past few days reading over old and new content and getting an awesome perspective on PSU football & recruiting. What I like is the equal amounts football & recruiting it is not slanted either way.

So just a general FYI.... I was not sure what to expect going in and it has easily surpassed my expectations! So come on in the water is fine.

  • Joined last week. I still enjoy both sites but noticed allot of the posters I enjoyed reading have moved over here. Sean does a great job and I enjoy reading his prospective on PSU athletics.

  • Joined last week as well. Great content, also a great setup. Site works great from my phone. Definitely recommend it to any PSU fans thinking of joining.

I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

    Welcome, again Philafan.

I agree 2013, the mobile site is definitely the best I've seen and is extremely user friendly.

  • You can't beat this site. I'd occasionally do one of those buy a month, get a month free offers on another site but I never renewed. I however plan on being here for a long time.

  • Thanks Phila, and welcome to all of our new subscribers. Though we started from scratch, this place has the feel of something special. Hope you all continue to come back day in and day out.

Thanks Sean for all your hard work....2011-12 recruiting could get exciting, fun, interesting, and/or frustrating the next 3-4 months. I look forward to your updates and appreaciate everything you do for us.

Sean, who is your PSU defense and offense sleepers this year? What freshmen will play and contribute in 2011 season? Who has the breakout year that you weren't expecting? Just July 3rd but Fall practices are just around the corner....so thought to ask to get some excitement stirred.

  • I hope to become VIP someday soon, but I hate how there is not a separate "free board." It kills the atmosphere, imho. When I'm VIP, my opinion won't change either.

TRUST ME the convos on the VIP side have much more detail and the info is a lot better...

  • I just think the board would have a lot more threads and discussions if it wasn't set up the way it is. Just my opinion though! A non VIP starts a thread and then all of sudden 3 VIPs post stuff, in the same thread, that one can't read.

I'm not doubting the content or depth of the discussions. I've followed Sean's work from the other site.

They might put one up eventually if there's enough interest. Right now I think 247 is working on more pressing matters, like getting boards for all the teams (UM is a priority right now, it seems).

I'd like to see Kevin Haplea have about 15-20 catches this year, if he does it will really help out the offense. Other than that, most of Penn State's offense is already established. They're going to go with the names you know (Redd, Moye, Brown) and stick with that in my opinion.

Defensively, I know you guys will grill me for this, but my expectations are back up for Jack Crawford. He was awful last year, hands down, but this year he should have two guys on the inside sucking up at least three blockers on every play and when he had that with Jared Odrick in the middle, he had a very good year. Boom or bust though, in my opinion, and I could end up being very wrong. Also, don't write off Nate Stupar just yet, I think we see plenty of him this year and he can play.

  • That post makes me very happy Sean. I have had some of the same thoughts on Crawford. I think you are 100% correct in that Hill and Still will demand a lot of attention and thereby free up some space for Crawford. Now, whether Crawford takes advantage has yet to be seen, but I'm going to have some faith. Like you said, he had some good moments during his sophomore year, so hopefully has a big year in 2011. His play will be very important for the team's success.

The combination of free vs. premium is our model for boards because we believe it will generate more discussion within the community. Our reason is that we feel there are many topics started on other sites' premium boards that shouldn't be locked down for the masses to read. For example, why should someone pay to have to read a topic like NCAA 12 PSU player rankings. Those type of topics should be open for everyone to read and we want to open things up to all Penn State fans.

With that said we leave it up to the users on the board to decide if their topic or reply should be marked as premium or not. If a user has some inside information he wants to share with just the premium subscribers, mark it VIP. But I think if you are just making a general post about Penn State football, basketball or recruiting, it should be free for others to read and comment on.

This seems to be the ideal situation, though I don't think that's the case in reality. I do know that I've seen people mention that they make all their posts VIP so there is a smaller pool of people who will upvote or downvote their posts.

We've actually had a discussion about this very topic today and are looking at possible solutions.

Great point Pat. My first month at this site I wasn't even registered to make comments...just read whatever I could. I then signed up as a non-VIP, and got angry when I couldn't read stuff, so I upgraded. However, I try to uncheck the box whenever possible/appropriate. And honestly, there is still plenty of stuff that people keep VIP for little reason. It almost makes me feel bad for the others because when I was in their position I used to think I was missing something super important. Occasionally it is something important and occasionally it's something all should be able to read.

  • Some might think this is a "wise-guy post." It is NOT.

BUT, how about a "that-a-boy" for non premium people who come to the site (posting or not) regularly!! Gotta think this adds to site's revenue via adds sold!!
By the way, a couple of non premium guys are some of the site's best posters!
