Tiny Powell mention from Oakland

  • "For the veterans, it was their first chance to see the new rookies in action. “It went real well,” said CB DeMarcus Van Dyke. “A lot of guys are out there flying around. There are young guys out there showing that they deserve to be up here, guys like [Juron] Criner and Chaz Powell, so it’s a good week for us.”"

  • Powell has some talent. He got moved around so much he never really developed imo. He's also a bit of headcase but it does not shock me he impressed some veterans with his his athletic abliity

Those are my feelings about him as well.

I don't know what position he's being worked out at, but seeing him mentioned with Criner by a DB makes me think he's at wide receiver, which means it'll be tough sledding for him to make the roster. He's not going to beat out DHB, Moore, Ford, or Murphy. And so far Criner has been wowing everyone like Moore last year.

  • Who is Tiny Powell?

Just messing. Nice to see a guy showing well. Oakland is a good chance for a WR to step up. They've got a lot of potential guys there.

  • FYI - Chaz's profile on the Raiders website has him at Safety

Haha, I don't know why I didn't think of that first.

I'd like him to make the team, but I don't know if he's physical enough to play defense at the next level.

  • I won't be shocked if he makes the team. The guy has a lot of physical ability. It hasn't translated to the football field as much as it could IMO but he still has time to improve. His versatility might help him make the squad.

Especially when you consider how depleted our secondary is. The only issue is that we're especially thin at DB. If he's at safety, we already have two solid or better starters with Huff and Branch (and Tyvon Branch is a beast, dude loves to hit).

If he can learn to be more physical and not shy away from hits, he definitely has a chance as a 3rd string safety/return man/special teamer

It will be awesome if he earns a spot. I think Stupar makes the squad, especially with JaMarcus McClain running into legal issues (thanks SEC, you guys are awesome), and Wimbley moving on. Kid may not be flashy, but I think he can be a solid reserve LB in the NFL. In recent terms, I'm thinking a lesser Josh Hull (hopefully without the injuries).

Crawford, barring an awful camp, I think makes the team as well. They'll take a gamble on him, viewing him as untapped potential. Get him some NFL strength training, and he has a chance to surprise.

And of course Wiz anchoring the line as the new starting center, with uncle Wiz staying on with the new staff as assistant line coach, we'll have a strong PSU showing this year. I love it!
