Tim Frazier Update...

  • according to SID Brian Siegrist, Frazier began running today for the first time since his injury 14 weeks ago. Siegrist tweeted Frazier is doing "exceptionally well" according to trainer Jon Salazer.

    That's an anti-gravity treadmill, by the way. Allows him to run at half his weight, making it less stressful on his Achilles.

  • Great news! I think PSU is going to be strong next year at the guard position. Just need some dominate post players.

  • Great to hear! Looking forward to next season with Newbill having a whole year of experience under his belt and Frazier back. Plus Thorpe coming in and Johnson the Pitt transfer.

    That's a spiffy machine he's running on/in there. Looks like a spaceship.

    For now, let's just hope that 3-4 good guards/forwards are enough to turn the team back into a competitive team, worthy of NCAA consideration if the right things happen. College teams do not need dominant post players (in the traditional sense) in order to make the NCAA's. Will we win a Big Ten or National Title without one, maybe, maybe not. But look at the last two tourney teams we've had. Not a traditional dominant post player on either of them. Had a couple of role players and tweeners in the post and then had some DOMINANT guards. That's what I'd rather have. Good guard play.

    Talor Battle was just stupid good, and criminally underrated. I saw that dude make more 35+ ft shots than most "shooters" make regular 3s.

  • I'm not expecting Tim to pick up where he left off, but boy is he going to inject some scoring and excitement into a program that desperately needs both. With Newbill and Marshall (assuming he returns) both putting up about 15ppg and Tim likely good for 16+, we should have a pretty good back court. Add in Johnson in Janruary as a 3-point shooter and it only gets better. We are basically swapping Colella and Montminy for Fraizer and Johnson.... which is a massive upgrade to the back court.

    I never thought I would see the day when I wished Sasa would come back for his 5th (6th?) year, but Graham and Ackerman just don't look like players that should be more than guys that give us 10-15 minutes per game off the bench. Hopefully one of them steps up or Moore contributes. Either way, a back court of Fraizer, Newbill, Marshall, and Johnson with Travis and Taylor up front we just need adequate post play from one of the bigs to get by.

    When I think of excellent G play in the NCAA tourny I think of Villanova with their guards. They have never been a strong big man school, but have turned out some really good PGs, SGs, and SFs.

    Agreed, that's what I'm hoping for. Great guard play and serviceable big men to can run, rebound, shot block, etc. We don't need Cody Zeller to be competitive. Sure doesn't hurt though.... but I'll take great guard play every day of the week.

    Agreed, people didn't give him enough credit nationally b/c PSU never contended for the B1G championship. He was definitely the heart and soul and took pressure off of every other player by being as good as he was.

    I like that blue print. There just aren't that many dominant big men coming out of HS anymore. They all seem to be run and gun type slashers with little time in the paint. If we get good guard play and a SF that can slash and score I really could care less about a dominant PF/C. Matter of fact I would rather see a PF that can run with our Gs rather than a sit in the post kinda player. That's just me though.
