The pitch for Chris Petersen

It's a likely assumption, but can't say for sure. What's been tough in covering this search is the amount of misinformation out there because there's not a lot of info being leaked right now.

Do you expect that to change at any time for any reason, or will an announcement just come out of nowhere?

imo, with how this is going, we won't hear anything until a deal has already been reached with whoever it is. I wish we knew the timeframe but in reality no one does. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they were down to talking numbers to people and negotiating with their targets right now since they have been holding interviews all week.

I think it depends on the candidates they are targeting. For example, I think Mullen's name was hot early on because people around Mullen were talking.

Boise is a pretty awesome place. I love my State College..but I might even prefer Boise..

My parents moved from State College to Eagle, ID (suburb of Boise) about 2.5 years ago. Boise is definitely a cool place!

That would be ideal. I would love if that was the stage of the process that we were in but we will never know.

I'm sure we'll be able to gather a lot about the process based on the person they hire.

  • you guys know boise football is on probation, don't you? is that a concern at all?

"The Boise State football program will be docked nine scholarships over a three-year period, and the athletic department must serve three years' probation as a result of widespread rules violations, the NCAA announced Tuesday.

Boise State had already self-imposed the probationary period in the wake of violations involving more than 75 prospects and student-athletes across five different sports. The NCAA added six scholarship reductions in football to the three the school had already taken away and cited the school for "lack of institutional control."

Good deal. It's about time we take the just win mentality. Since PSU has already been tossed under the bus by the country and the BT decided to pile on today, we just made JT and Peterson the top 2 choices. hammer

What did the Boise football program do wrong?

    Nothing, iirc.

Wasn't it about one or two minor programs...maybe tennis?

ha.....I for one do not like seeing what is happening with all the national media and crap with PSU

and to boulder, a few sports were involved-tennis was the most egregious, but football got hit for following:

In its statement, the NCAA said, "Boise State failed to establish an adequate compliance system to report NCAA rules violations with regard to impermissible housing, transportation and other benefits to prospective and enrolled student-athletes. The university failed to provide adequate rules education and training to staff members to ensure compliance.

"In addition, the university failed to monitor its program to deter, find and report instances of NCAA violations to the NCAA."

The Committee on Infractions cited recruiting, impermissible housing and transportation violations in the football program during the summers of 2005 through 2009. In particular, the committee noted that the football violations occurred over a lengthy period of time and involved 63 prospective student-athletes."

I only know because OSU people wanted him and with what was going on there many of us realized it was not a good idea.

  • To me, Chris Petersen is my top choice. This guys runs an exciting offense and defense will take care of itself at Penn State regardless of who is on the staff. I really want this guys. He is Penn State in my opinioin and he belongs here.

Not sure what type of recruiter he is though. Will be interesting to see how does on that front.

But for a coach who has turned down lucrative offers and has referred to himself as a "homebody", what would be the search committee's pitch to get him to move East?

"So, Chris, we hear you are a homebody....have you heard about our state-of-the-art Skype recruiting center?"

I think Peterson would be an interesting hire...definitely one of the better names mentioned so far.
