The Worst is Behind Us

  • The one good thing about today IMO is that the waiting game is over. I have been dreading this day since November. Honestly, I have taken this a lot better than I thought I would. Why? Because it's over. The speculation can stop, and the rebuilding can begin.

The punishment is bad, and we may be looking at some sub-par football the next few years. But you know what? There will be football. We will still get to watch our boys on Saturdays in the fall. We will still be able to tailgate. People will still be chanting We Are Penn State.

Our top recruit is still committed to PSU, BOB is still our coach, and our school spirit will never go away. Cheer up my fellow Penn Staters.

I needed this pick-me-up. I said all along that as long as we play, we will be fine. When the sanctions came down, I think I got sucked into it with the doom and gloom era, but I think my pendulum has swung back to "optimistic.".

Because as you said, there is still football to be played.

  • One of the best ways to stick it to the NCAA would be to show up to games in force. The culture of students liking Penn State football was the never the problem. Money and a power were; two things the NCAA knows a lot about.

Think I'm going to watch this movie on Netflix tonight:

    Necessary Roughness (1991) - IMDb

Directed by Stan Dragoti. With Scott Bakula, Hector Elizondo, Robert Loggia, Harley Jane Kozak. Due to NCAA sanctions, the Texas State University Fightin Armadillos must form a football team from their actual student body...

  • As a student, I can tell you that many of my friends and I are going to be louder than before.. Leaving the game without losing your voice is not acceptale.

  • I was a student from 02-05 and know that the abysmal seasons that occurred in 03-04 caused the student section to be one angry sob once 05 came around.. Hopefully the current students get to have a similar experience before they graduate..

  • I was a student from 00-04. We missed 4 bowl games and lost one to Auburn. We had a freaking 3-9 year. We can do this and get through it.

  • dont mean to be a debbie downer but what comes after the sanctions is alot worse. Watching your team struggle for years is bad. The worst is coming. Just from my experience from the sanctions we went through. Trust me i am die hard and it tested my patience and love for my team.

I dunno man, consider what we went through and a few yeas of crappy football doesn't seem so bad.

As was I. And I still loved every minute I had at PSU. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

The one good thing from it is that getting back to power and winning again makes winning so much sweeter.

  • Things will get better. Don't give up on the program like some are. You will struggle and it will be rough for probably many years. The good news is you have a good coach and a solid fan base. I enjoyed our home and home with y'all and I think your fan base has some of the classiest fans. Just take it from a BAMA fan you have to stay strong. My family kept our season tickets even though we were terrible, but you still get to tailgate and watch football on Saturday...it's not so bad! Keep your head up!

We've seen our team struggle... I'll take losing over what we went through the last eight months... I don't have to worry about the team not being there anymore. I can still go to games and have fun. Besides, we don't know if PSU will be terrible... I see this as an opportunity for O'Brien to prove how good a coach he really is.

  • From a football perspective, in 10 days, you're probably right. From an Institutional perspective...the surface is just being lightly scratched on how bad it's going to get.

  • It's amazing how Bama fans are all classy. That's respect right there. They never gloat or harass us. They seem to get it. I wish there were more like them. We are not bad people and we hate Sandusky more than anyone, yet we are all labeled as only caring about football.

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

Agreed.. But that really won't affect me or anyone else unless we lose federal funding..

If someone walked up to me and said "Joe Paterno was a child rapist enabler" I get angry.. If someone walks up to me and says "The administration at your school is terrible and needs to be fired" I will emphatically agree.

  • I remember during the 2004 season, I went to the home coming game with my father. Im looking around and started shaking my head. My Dad said "what are you shaking your head about" I said look at all these people, this team sucks this year and we still show up in droves to support our school our team and our pride." my Dad looked around started laughing and said "your right, but what else should we do with our saturdays in the fall."

That will not change, i have always taken the good with the bad and planning on doing so as long as I'm around

Funny you should post this. Trying for levity, at 845a yesterday, I e-mailed my father about it. I told him we find out in a few short minutes if our future QB will be Popke and our #1 WR will be Charlie Banks. It just might be, but imagine how exciting that tie of Kansas and win over Pitt will feel.

  • So with a new day comes new hope. So glad that yesterday is behind us. Did I think the sky was falling yesterday? Of course. But today... I am trying to find positives to look at. WE ARE a strong community. WE ARE the largest alumni group in the country. WE ARE going to get through this.

Yes, the next year or two will be hard but looking for a positive, I thought of this. Maybe not this year or next, but BOB has something to sell. The challenge is finding the right person to buy it. If you have grown up a Penn State fan, like a lot of us, you hate seeing the program like this. It's time to rebuild. To become part of that would be something very special. You could bring the program out of its darkest age and be remembered forever. Yes the 4 year bowl ban hurts, but in two years or so, you'll still get to play in 2 bowls as a junior and senior. USC did it, why can't we? We have a storied history. We can get through this.

Yes the NCAA shook us to our cure (as a football fanbase- don't even get me started on what that sick Sandusky did to those poor children), but let's move forward. Penn Staters are unlike anyone I've ever met. We have gotten through our toughest times. Now there is a light at the end of the tunnel- no matter how dim. Let's remember who WE ARE.
