The Pennsylvania Big 3 Recruits...

  • IMO, I think the 3 biggest targets in Pennsylvania are, in order: Breneman, Foster, and Kugler

At what percentage do you put our chances at getting these guys?

Mine is just guessing, but maybe:

    Breneman: 90%
    Foster: 40%
    Kugler: 10%

Would losing out on all 3 of these players already seal the fate of O'Brian?

I think Purdue and Pitt are up there.

I'd put the number for Foster at 10%, unless this weekend goes really well.

His brother goes to Purdue currently.

Hard to say. But he does not have any deep ties to the state of Pennsylvania, and he comes from a family that has moved around a lot , so he is probably going to listen to his father and will play for someone that has a great o-line coach. I think, of these 3 recruits, the toughest get for O'Brien would be Kugler. Foster is obviously going to be really difficult,too.. but if we can pull in a top 3 QB, I think Foster would have to like what he could do in the system and may jump on. I hope!!

Brother plays at Purdue and supposedly is very close to him. He likes Purdue alot. Yes, he is a good player and worthy of a full blown press to get.

Definitely! Always have been. But for some reason, you guys never recruited me!? So I had to go to Michigan just so I could be close to Penn State and touch their jerseys the few times we got to play each other.,

If I could choose between touching Bunchen everyday and touching a PSU white jersey, I will always touch the jersey

One big thing I like about the new coaching at PSU... we will finally get a top QB.. It's been a long time!

  • I think it's absolutely way to early to have any clues as to where prospects are headed and how our new staff is going to go about this.

The things I am looking at as far as us having a chance with anyone are these...

Our head coach was just in the NFL as the coordinator on a highly productive offense with a Hall Of Fame QB.
(We have lost the legendary status of one of the greatest coaches to ever live, but have gained NFL relevance (where all these kids want to end up eventually), youthful energy and fire, and exponentially increased creativity with offensive schemes.

Our O-Line coach was just at Texas (and before that the SEC) and has rings. He has established himself as one of the elite coaches in CFB and has put numerous lineman in the pros. He immediately trumps Anderson and Kenney.

Our WR Coach brings NFL relevance and a proven track record of success in the NFL. He has SEC roots and a ring from LSU. He immediately trumps anything that Mike McQueary brought to the table.

Our TE Coach has a history of success as both a TE coach and an O-line coach. There are a lot of people who have looked down upon this hire, but do you really think he can't at the very least equal what Kenney brought to the table (some seem to have sour grapes since the kids from Massachusetts had formed a strong bond with Kenney) - When was the last time our tackles or TE's were consistent performers. I have read that he has received high praise for recruiting in the past and seems very involved as we speak.

Our D-line and LB coaches... pretty much speak for themselves. They are the cream of the crop at their position.

Our D-Coordinator has a championship ring from 1 year ago that he won with Auburn. He has ties to the South and preaches a defensive strategy that excites recruits with an attacking style. Tom Bradley was an excellent coach and we had very good defenses under him, but anytime we faced a great offense we sat back and let them crucify our secondary and never were able to get the pressure on the QB that was necessary. I am willing to give this guy a chance.

Our RB coach is young, intelligent, and just came from coaching in the NFL where he was around two elite backs on a day to day basis. He was a RB in college not too long ago and seems to be an energy guy. Galen had a lot of history to back up his knowledge of the game, but didn't seem to have much relevance when it comes to talking to prospects.

Our DB Coach is an unknown, but he is young and has worked with Roof before and everyone says that he won't be outworked and is the most competitive guy they know. Came from SEC.

Our S&C Coach is from the SEC and has received rave reviews across the board with energy and creativity.

This staff is much better suited to recruit than the last one. Our chances are as good as anyone if prospects are willing to listen.

First, thank you for calling me a "Hall of Fame QB". It has not been easy since the big loss

Second, very good run down of all our coaches! I can directly attest to the ability of some of the coaches you have mention, having worked with them directly or indirectly,

+1 for the great rundown. I can't wait to see what these guys can put together.. The next few months have the potential to be very exciting!

  • Brenneman- 65%
    Foster- 10%
    Kugler- 20%

There is a chance we miss on all 3. There is a chance we land all 3. I think Brenneman is the key here. If he jumps on board early, this could lead to us landing a big time QB, which could in turn make it a little more attractive to Foster. With all that said, I think Adam is a late commit with OSU and ND being the major players....

Higher on Brenneman, lower on Kugler. And I think AB is a summer commit. But for the most part, I agree with what you said.

Good Luck with all 3 player's. Hope O"Brian can fine away to keep a lot of good player's in state. Hate seeing those Pennsylvania boys going to O$U.

Hope you guys get LTT. I'm from Peoria and know a couple guys on that staff and they all really like UM. I know there's been some OSU talk as well as him really liking ND. I'd rather him go to Michigan myself. He's a bit of a project but a good kid that is a very gifted athlete.

    MTayl72

  • not listed in the big three, but do we have a better shot at him then kugler, foster being sold as randy moss has to be a huge factor, and hernandez comparisons for breneman can be both good and bad, since it plays into urban meyers hands of saying he coached the kid in college and turned him into a big time player, it definitely seems as though adam is all but signed up for psu though, which is really exciting
