The Penn State Bar thread...

  • This may be more useful in the future, during the season, but if you can't make it to games and there is a local watering hole where you like to frequent to watch the game with Penn State fans, post it here. If you would like to watch the game with other Penn State fans in your area and you don't know where to go, post your location and hopefully someone can help you out.

  • Stanley's in Wilmington (Foulk Road) is a awesome spot.

Of course, if you have to go to Stanley's you could always get ahold of me and watch it in the man cave :)

  • DC Area:

Car Pool in Arlington and Rhino in Georgetown. The bottom floor of Rhino is an Ohio State bar so it's a great place to rock your "Legends and Liars" t-shirt.

  • I am lucky enough to still be in State College this coming season... but if I wasn't I would be in the Boston area, and at "The Greatest Bar" in Boston. Really nice sports bar, and ever since PSU fans swarmed there, the bar has really played it up nicely, and the bartenders wear Penn State stuff as well. They offer deals to Penn State fans, and even make grilled stickies haha. Deals (like 4 beers and a very good pizza for $10) and giveaways, and guaranteed a good group of PSU fans. I know the Boston alumni chapter swarms there in packs. Can't complain about a 14' HD screen either!

I am not a member right now, but I believe members of the alumni chapter get extra deals too, might want to look into that, if you are in the Boston area.

  • Also, if you want to advertise your PSU Alumni Chapter on here, have at it. I know Pat is in the Nashville one and I'm sure there are quite a few out there.

  • The triangle chapter in NC meets up at O Mulligans outside of Raleigh by the airport. It gets a large crowd with great drink specials. Its also an Iowa and Florida bar as well so it gets interesting.

  • Great idea Sean. Anyone know where a lot of PSU fans watch games in CT? Is there an alumni association (I'm not an alum) or fan club that gets together at a bar to watch games? Something like that bar in Boston sounds awesome, but that's a bit far for me.

  • In NYC, it's Tonic East. 29th & 3rd. Get there early, it's an absolute mob scene on a Penn State football Saturday.

I grew up in CT, but never spent much time there as a legal bar visitor. I would check into the CT valley alumni association and send someone an email about where they meet for games.

Nowhere near where I lived, but I have heard of Pippas Sports Cafe in Danbury, and Black Bear in New Haven as Penn State bars. I wouldn't completely trust that, so your best bet is to send someone an email. Hope that helps.

Also, not sure where you are, but if you have a group that love psu football and a good time, I would definitely say it would be worth it to get to boston for a game... maybe pick one of the bigger ones and a make a weekend of it!

I went there last October for the Iowa game when I was up in Boston. Great place and I was blown away by the number of Penn State fans.

Try searching on Google for alumni groups in your area. Down in Nashville, we have a chapter and if you search Nashville Penn State, it's the first result.

  • PSU Harrisburg Alumni Chapter

I go to all the home games so I'm not sure what bars around the Harrisburg area are "PSU bars" to watch the games at.

Just bought a home a few months ago and am working on a man's cave, probably will have that finished for the 2012 football season.

Well then we may have seen each other then haha.

You may have seen me walking away with like 5 to-go pizzas after the game because the 4 beers for $10 with a pizza was worth it even after we couldn't eat anymore!

    11psu11

  • Thanks Pat and 11psu11, I'll look into that. I'm 10 mins from New Haven so I'll have to check out Black Bear.

Definitely going to hit that up, I'm moving to Hoboken in a few weeks and that sounds awesome. I've heard good things about Tonic on non-game days, FWIW.

The CT valley chapter watches games at Damons Bar & Grill in West Hartford CT.. I'm not a member either but there is usually a good crowd there and good food.. I dont kno where you are in CT but where I am we dont get the Big Ten Network so i've taken in quite a few games there..

  • Beat me to it. Yeah, they go to Damons for every game (not affiliated with the chain). Here's there website:

    http://alumniconnections.com/olc/pub/PST/cpages/home.jsp?chapter=19

That Greg Malone guy sends out monthly emails (I still get them even though I moved away years ago).

For all you study abroaders or guys looking to piss off your wife/girlfriend on a vacation she believes should be 100% about her, Giovanni's is a Penn State/Steelers bar in Rome, just off the west side of Piazza Navona. Highly recommend. Always students there for games, even the 8pm (2am) games, and he'll stay open til 5 for the full game.

  • Damn you guys are good! Not being a PSU alum I would have never found a place like Damon's. I'll definately make it there for a game or 2 this year. Thanks again guys.

  • San Francisco Bay area here. The alumni association watches the games at Monaghans in the city, I made it for a couple of games last year and it was a real crazy game day atmosphere. I'm in the east bay though and would appreciate if anyone has suggestions that are close to the bart / easier to reach than the marina. I wrangle a decent TV at the Stadium in Walnut Creek, but I'm usually one of the only Penn State fans there.
