Users can get free text alerts by consecutive months of service (applicable to monthly members), user ratings and reputations, posting on the message boards and referring members to Lions247. All of these services are expected to be added once our engineers complete the rewrite of the user management and reputations system which is expected during Q1 2013.

  • I'm sure a lot of people (who aren't me) will appreciate this.

What I'd like to know is when are we going to get quote box functionality. Using

to put quotes into a quote box like and put stuff in bold and italics.

Side note: wonder if we've gotten underlining yet. Test

    Guess not.

Also, having buttons to automatically do that for us would be nice to have.

That won't happen until the tech team re-writes the code for all of the message boards, which won't be during the season - mostly to avoid any extended period of time where the board is down to work out bugs. So I wouldn't expect it in the near future.

    grumble

For me, quote boxes are as essential to message boarding as bolding and italicizing. Blech. I came from boards that used vbulletin, and thought that a new format like this (not sure what is used as the base) would have even more options.

    I'll be in my corner...waiting.

  • I signed up 2 days ago. I haven't gotten anything yet, not even a confirmation. Has it been quiet or did I screw something up (quite possible with my technical ignorance)

It's been quiet for me ... maybe we will get a text when the S-Zone launches?

Thanks for the feedback. We don't want to inundate people who subscribe to this service with texts, but feedback like this is what will help make this feature better going forward.

Anyone else have thoughts on the text alerts?

It would be cool if we choose what texts we get. Game scores are redundant, but I'd like to keep getting breaking news stuff.

EDIT: didn't mean to come off dick-ish, which I think I did. And Pat has a better answer anyway.

Eventually we'll have the ability for users to filter which type of alerts they want.

if somebody has a technical problem with this - who can we email? I'm not sure it's working unless you've not sent out any text messages in the last week.

The last text sent out was yesterday about Gerald Hodges being named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. There have only been four text messages sent out since it was introduced.

I'll be able to help out if you haven't received any alerts and have signed up. I'll be able to verify through our provider.

  • We've had a handful of users sign up for alerts since Tuesday, but one site we're still behind in total numbers is the Virginia site, Wahoos247 so if you haven't taken advantage of this service, now is the time to sign up.

Great news. I want the recruiting texts, but I'd prefer to not get in-game alerts, as I sometimes have to DVR the games.

  • I didnt see any privacy agreement. What else will our numbers be used for? Will they be sold to telemarketers, etc?
