Teams to schedule

  • What teams do you want to schedule games with OOC in the future?

The future games we have currently have quite a local feel to them. Syracuse, VA, Rutgers, etc. Who do you want to play in the future?

Honestly, I'd like to play Alabama again in a few years. They're obviously loaded, but they're the best of the best and if our team has been built well, we should be able to compete with them.

Id say we are at least 4 years away from Bama... But yeah, Id love to suit it up against them when we're ready. Heck we stood a chance this year... We were in it... A bad 4th down spot here, a more inventive offense there, and it was close... New staff can get it done when the 2013 recruits are seniors. I am a believer in BOB.... So far. lol

No doubt, I'm not saying schedule Bama next year or anything. I'm thinking like 2015 or later. We technically have our schedules filled up, I thought, even if those aren't set in stone.

  • I'd love to see an upper mid-level SEC or PAC-12 team eg Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee/Stanford (I'm assuming significant drop off with Luck being gone) USC.
Don't we still have an open OOC game in the 2013 season?

I think the open spot is 2014. Gopsusports.com says we have Kent State, UVA, Eastern Michigan and Syracuse in 2013.

I hate saying this, but doing what Alabama did this year is the best way to go about improving perception. Schedule a team (like PSU) who has a good reputation, easy schedule and will end up making you look pretty good overall. But make sure it's a team that is actually weak enough for you to beat.

I certainly wouldn't mind playing Stanford or Georgia or any others of those. Would be very fun to watch, especially without Turtle Coaching in big games (i.e. curl up under your shell and wait for the enemy to fall asleep before biting its ankles).

  • Virginia Tech - a home and home with them would be nice.

Also, another home and home with an SEC team or two would be sweet also. Say, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, etc.

  • For the completely selfish reason making it easy to get to an away game I would like to see Colorado on the schedule.

Pretty sure Sean wanted to schedule them as well. I asked him why and he said because he loves it out there and wants to visit again.

You may get your wish in a couple years when the B1G/Pac 12 begin their annual version of the college basketball challenges that are out there.

  • I think the following games would be great home and home matchups enjoyed by both fans and the teams involved alike. As an added bonus I think all of them would be beneficial for PSU Recruiting.

SEC- UT, USCe, UGA, and UF.

ACC- BC, UMD, Va Tech, UNC, Clemson, Ga Tech, Miami

    Big East- RU

    Big 12- Texas

Pac 12- UCLA, USC, Cal, Stanford.

I live up in the mountains and love it. Boulder is only about an hour and 45 minutes from where I live.

I was just going to point this out. We may have a tough time scheduling really tough opponents from other conferences if we start getting top teams from the PAC12 every year. We'd at least be limited to short home and homes with them, so our schedule remained flexible.

EDIT: To answer the question, though...

    Stanford
    Miami
    Vanderbilt
    Texas A&M
    Kansas
    Virginia Tech

I'd like to play teams we don't see very often.

I like the VT thought. Not sure why we havent already. Two very similar teams in terms of style, or at least were.

For the next several years, I would like to see no team stronger than a UVA or Maryland on our schedule. Wins= recruits. I think Bob is getting a fairly bare cupboard and I dont like the way we stack up, especially with this weak incoming class.

After that, if we show any improvment, schedule them all.

  • Just due to familiarity sake, I bet GT is a real possibility.

I'd definitely like to see a Big 12 or PAC 12 team scheduled. OU/Ok St or a west coast team. I think it would be cool to play Stanford. I'd make a trip out to Palo Alto.

  • Well when that B1G/Pac-12 deal starts, we'll see teams like Stanford, Oregon, USC etc. on the schedule.

I would like to see West Virginia. I would definitely travel down there. I almost went to school there, but my love for Penn State won out. Maybe I could get my graduate degree from WVU shrug

I would also like to see Texas, Oklahoma, Miami, Maryland, Florida State.. Those are probably pipe dreams though...

If Penn State wants to continue to schedule FCS teams in the future, I would like to see Penn or Villanova instead of Youngstown State, Coastal Carolina etc

  • Maybe it's just the Western Pennsylvanian in me but I'd really like to see us play Pitt more often. Not saying we should play them every year but maybe 2-4 times a decade would be nice. Mainly b/c I live in Pittsburgh and would love to beat them down so I can rub it in the faces of all my Pitt friends but also b/c it used to be such a good rivalry

I would love to play Pitt every year but with the Pac12/Big Ten series I just hope we play them twice a decade.

  • I would love to play SPITT every year, not because we need to but because it would help recruiting. When Penn State beat up on Pitt ever year it opened ups the eyes of the recruits. They realized that Pitt was our little brother and could never get out of our shadow.

  • I'd love to see Clemson, South Carolina, or Georgia. Carolina and Georgia have really been good for recruits lately and it would be nice to see some exposure down here.

    PSUfan28

  • I'd also like to see more neutral site games like the DC game versus Indiana and the upcoming game at Yankee Stadium, maybe a PSU v. ND at Heinz field or a PSU v. Boston College at Gillette Stadium, or a PSU v. Va Tech at FedEx Field.

  • ND, UCONN, Pitt, Rutgers, WV, UNC, VT. The list could go on. Please no more Coastal Carolina, etc.
