Not really. Smith was done after this year anyway.

True, but at least there is a one-year scholly that can be given to a former walkon. Actually, there are a few in hte defensive backfield depth chart that may be deserving of the honor.

We'll miss Drake more than Smith, IMO. But neither is fatal.

    Is this tweet about Smith?:

    Tim Tolley ‏@TimTolleyVBR
Oh snap! @CoryGiger and @GoPSUJeff just called @seanfitz247 and @Lions247 liars!!!! I'm setting Fitz as an early 3-2 favorite on this one.

    MAN DO I HATE GIGER!

Can someone explain this tweet? What did Sean supposedly lie about?

Supposedly Giger tweeted or said it somewhere else that it was not true that Smith was off the team based on Gigers getting info from Jeff Nelson.

So Tim made it out to be that they were accusing Fitz for lying. In hindsight, he (Tim) definitely sensationalized it a bit from what I see.

  • Honestly, I've been really curious what Kenney would add to the offense anyway. Maybe he won't trip over his own feet.

  • This sucks. I couldn't wait to see him in O'Brien's offense. Good luck, Moo-Moo.

Eugene Lewis and Alex Kenney will need to step up..............I always thought Lewis would play as a true frosh, now I am convince

  • This isn't surprising. As good as he could be under BOB (possibly), Smith is replaceable.

    This SUCKS!

    No Drake. No Moo Moo.

I know Drake wasn't supposed to play much offense this year, but he and Moo Moo were playmakers! (When not injured that is)

this doesn't suck, this is good for the program. Get rid of the guys who don't want to represent PSU as a student athlete and stay clean. stay true to JoePa's legacy. give the scholarships to kids who want to get a PSU education and who want to play football at the highest level.

  • I like what happened, BOB let everyone know what the rules were when he came in and their wasn't going to be any dog houses or second chances! These kids have an opportunity only a few percent get, a chance to shine in college and a shot at the pros.I don't feel bad for anyone who blows this chance, I welcome whom ever gets the chance to step in and prove themself! Belton will stay at RB and used in 3rd down plays where they can pitch it to him or short passes in the open field.

Im sorry but I must have been watching a different Devon Smith than you were watching. The Smith I saw on the field couldnt catch and couldnt break a tackle and was taking reps away from players that no doubt could have made more plays than Smith did.

I feel bad the kid on a personal level but strictly from a Penn State on the field perspective, I think this addition by subtraction.

  • My guess is smith messed up on the honesty policy... Might have mislead bob a ill... And bob has stressed the honesty side of things. But then again what do I know

Exactly. He couldn't catch a cold and never seemed able to flash that burner speed he supposedly had. Another stretch skill position kid on offense courtesy of the previous regime.

  • This could have been done long ago. In fact, Smith was 1st on th edepth chart. Something must have happened recently because these charges are going to be dismissed in the court thru the ARD program. Cant see throwing him off the team for that. Must be something new.

Don't forget the tackles by the turf monster over and over.

  • While it sucks to lose any player, there were multiple times that he missed clutch catches on drives, plus this opens up more opportunities for the TE's to be playmakers which I think they will

some of you guys are looking at our playmakers like Belton, Kenney, Lewis ect..... and thinking thate they are still under the old staff that wouldnt put these guys in the best situation to succeed.... The way i am looking at this is if Belton can catch and has some shiftyness to him like we all know he does then he will play.....no doubt in my mind we will see him and Redd on the field at the same time with one going to the slot or something to this effect....... Dont forget our HC is the guy last year put his star TE at RB just to mix it up alil and it worked. Not saying we are going to see Gilliam at RB but just saying that this staff will put their playmakers in positions to make plays unlike the other staff.

Thinking WVU - Noel Devine vs. Tavon Austin
Oregon - LaMichael James vs. Barner & Thomas

Bottom line = GET YOUR TALENT ON THE FIELD.

If Belton is a playmaker that used to play WR.... you line him up wherever you can get him the ball. (and do a damn better job than Penn State did with Davon Smith)... New England's offense never had a problem with lining up individuals at multiple spots on the field with ambiguous "position" identity. Woodhead and Hernandez especially were all over God's creation.

I plan on seeing a lot of Belton regardless of his place on the depth chart.

  • as a side explanation.... I never thought Austin would stay at WR. He's like Smith.... only strangely somewhat successful.
