TV MONEY

  • Does anyone know if Rutgers brings only the New York City tv money, or all of New York state? If it's only NYC, does anyone think that Syracuse could be a possible addition? Along the same lines, would BC bring all of New England or just Massachusets?

I'd like to have Virginia and either Syracuse or BC. But if Cuse and BC don't bring enough tv money, I know it won't happen. I'm thinking we will get Virginia and North Carolina, which I would also be good with. I'd like to play Pitt every year as I think they will always be our real rival, but nobody cares about them and the big10 network has PA locked up.

    Technically, they don't bring either.

The real answer is whatever the BTN can negotiate with the NY area cable companies - and they are notoriously difficult to negotiate with.

Thanks uncle. So why bring in Rutgers? They don't have a big following in NY, and if the cable companies don't put the big10 network on the basic package it sounds pointless.

  • Google search Big Ten Network, YES network and fox. I am guessing that Fox will package the Yankee games and BTN to NYC cable.

This. I have lived all but 5 years just outside Manhattan in NJ. No one has gotten excited about Rutgers football since 2006, (at which time my buddy was being recruited there when I was a senior in high school. We were actually on the sidelines for the Louisville game.) In fact... I have never met anyone aside from my brother in law that seems to know when Rutgers is on TV.

This, people in NYC pay just about anything for Yankees baseball and FOX will make them a package deal.

you are correct in that Rutgers doesn't have a large fanbase and seems like an odd choice without the NYC market. That tells me that there is a plan to get the BTN on a lot of TVs. like you said, it sounds pointless otherwise. Matching the BTN with YES seems to be the answer.
