Steven Bench

  • Nice little interview from VBR. Some of you have already read this, I'm sure, and we're aware of his mindset and attitude from his twitter posts, but man this kid screams winner to me. I can't wait for an update on how he looks after a couple weeks of fall camp. Would be a shame if he never gets to see the field with Hack coming in right behind him, but he's got the right attitude to push a kid with more natural ability, or at the very least be one hell of a backup. Should be an intriguing kid to follow for the next 4+ years.

  • This is a 17-18 year old scholarship kid who has the humility and maturity that a certain walk on senior who has the privilege to play at Penn State can learn from. Just love the attitude, gonna win lots of fans. Be interesting to see who is the future QB between Hack and Bench.

Easy kid to root for. Like the chip on his shoulder mindset and confidence without crossing the line to cockiness. Anyone know his current height/weight?

At the very least, this young man will push all other QBs on the roster.

  • He played high school football for a couple of friends of mine in Cairo, GA. This is a great kid, as I mentioned here around signing day this past year.

He will be the perfect person to have along with Hack in a couple of years. He is talented enough to push him to excel and grounded enough to be a wonderful team player and find his role on the team. I wouldn't look past him coming in this year and working his way up the depth chart either......especially with the off the field issues Jones has had and the inconsistant play from the 2 "veterans".

At the very least he will make Hack much better just by pushing him. I am a Bench fan, as well as that entire class that had the courage to come here.

...and if you're not down with that, then I got 2 words for ya.."suck it!!"

Courage. A good word for today and for the incoming class.

I never wish harm on anyone, but, I am certainly NOT wishing success to the defectors.

Bench is exactly what you want when you get a developmental prospect. He has a arm, understands the game, great personality, and motivation with room to get better.

The 2012 class IMO will turn out pretty good. A lot of good depth and I think a few studs.

  • Man, we lucked into getting this kid. I think it even shows a lot of maturity for a 17-18 yo kid to talk about his appreciation for Rice coming to see him on a limited recruiting budget, especially in a day and age that is all about me, me, me. This kid seems like a really special kid.
