Or some day you will finally realize this man you think is so great turned a blind eye to child molestation allowing more innocent kids to get hurt. Great men don't wait to report this because they "didn't want to ruin anyones weekend".

Funny ... turned a blind eye, but he did report it to his superiors.

    You are better than that.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-400_162-57477382/ncaa-source-unprecedented-penalties-against-penn-state/?tag=stack

CBS News has learned that the NCAA will announce what a high-ranking association source called "unprecedented" penalties against both the Penn State University football team and the school.

"I've never seen anything like it," the source told correspondent Armen Keteyian.

NCAA President Mark Emmert will make the announcement Monday morning at 9 a.m. at the organization's headquarters in Indianapolis.

The timing of this would seem to indicate a few things.

    1) It seems too fast to be an announcement of DP type sanctions....the economic hardship incurred by hotels, restaurants, etc in Happy Valley, the impact to same on other campuses for away games, the schedule disruption in the B1G

    2) I would guess that PSU leadership has already been informed, and has already agreed....hell they may essentially be announcing self imposed....that would be the best possible spin for NCAA

    3) The PSU BOT is in a uniquely bad situation for negotiating with the NCAA...they bear some level of responsibility for the oversite, they have choosen (for the most part) not to resign, so now they end up in a weak negotiating position having to demonstrate they are committed to tough action...how do you do that and still lobby for criminal sanctions on guilty parties only?

    4) My guess...scholarships, bowl ban, trade an ancillary coaching position for a "compliance oversight position" reporting to someone in NCAA. Likely also football revenue set aside for victims (symbolic as we all know this will be expensive) and a free pass for transfers to other schools for impacted athletes.

    5) the line about "DP might have been better" should make everyone nervous

Right, sitting around doing nothing for over a decade when he saw and knew that superior was doing nothing and sweeping it under the rug isn't turning a blind eye.
There is a reason he has lied.

  • The reason a lot of MSU fans are here is because we have a huge site on 24/7. tRCMB was massive before coming here. Not every fan base is like that on 24/7. Some guy on the first page seemed pretty butt hurt that MSU fans are talking about the JoePa scandal. Well, everyone is...

Sucks that this all happened this way but it had to happen. I look forward to hearing more about JoePa's involvement and I think the Paterno's deserve a rebuttal. I'm sure they'll come back saying he was completely innocent but they deserve to do so.

It appears that some PSU fans need to take pride in their alma mater and not a man that was built well beyond the capability of living up to some unreasonable standards. JoePa was a great coach but was not without flaw. Accept it and move on.

What the PSU Administration is doing reminds me of what happened in an epic movie, "The Ten Commandments", starring Charleston Heston. In a key part of the movie Moses renounces his position as Prince of Egypt to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt; at that time, Moses' greatest fan, the current Pharaoh, issues an edict that the name of Moses shall be stricken form every tablet, statue and plaque in all of Egypt, and that the name of Moses shall never be spoken again, under penalty of death! Well at the moment of his death, this very Pharaoh speaks his name in loving praise.

When all the craziness ends, and all discover and understand what a great man they have purged, they will bemoan this day and what they have done to this man's family, fans and his memory. Poor fools!

You're comparing Joe to Moses? Really?

That was part of the problem in the first place. People will stop underplaying Joe's role eventually, and I'm looking forward to that day. People need to sack up and face the music.

Then should come a lawsuit from Penn State

I think Penn State's focus will be on other legal matters.

  • Maybe it's just my opinion, but I feel that if Joe truly wanted to cover this whole thing up he wouldn't have reported it to his superiors. MM was just a graduated assistant at the time he witnessed the shower incident, and probably looked highly up to Joe. After hearing about the incident, Joe could have easily told MM that it would be taken care of, and then done nothing more. I feel that if Joe wanted to cover this whole thing up he would have ended the chain with him, rather than reporting it to people who were well equipped to handle the matter.

I acknowledge that the statue had to be moved because of it's perceived meaning to those outside of the PSU community.

I don't quite understand how the statue for football accomplishments would be the "recurring wound to the multitude of individuals across the nation and beyond who have been the victims of child abuse" and the library would hold such a different meaning.

Simply feels like the university is pinning this on the football program instead of the administration.

It'd be nice if he mentioned where it was being moved to. If it's going inside the stadium or the all sports museum he might as well say it, but I guess we can't get over that transparency thing.

Our own administration has put this on the football program since day one. The question is why? Why is the focus solely on football? What's the motivation & what are they hiding? Why is Corbett getting a free pass?

The NCAA doesnt have to do anything. The legal system will discourage this, not a scholarship reduction or bowl ban.

Whats up with MSU fans coming over here so much? Its obvious you guys realize that your program is a step below us and you all are hoping and praying we get punished.

Have you considered that the NCAA imposing a major penalty could be an agreed-to cover for Penn State's administration doing what needs to be done?

I know you love your school and football team, but the AD and/or head football coaching covering up child rape to preserve the program's and coach's reputation is a big f-ing deal. You guys need to take a step back and consider the bigger picture.

  • Sad day for PSU and for me. I have been to a PSU game and have stood by JoPa statute .it was a great feeling. I am a Buckeye, but I know a great coach and mentor when I see one and Joe was one of the best. Hopefully after some time passes, the board will be able to return it or find a new place for it. Stay strong PSU fans. You and the PSU is stronger then any one scandal. You Are Penn State!!

  • Remember when Lane Kiffin and his coaching staff left Tennessee for USC a few years back?

That caused a huge riot on campus and also across the whole city.

Let's organize a big crowd and do the same at Penn State. Cause a riot. Burn some tires. Get on TV and make some noise. Bring guns (guns are legal as long as you don't shoot to kill like in Colorado this week).....

    It's called Occupy the Statue.

That would be a big deal IF it occurred. People need to step back and, I would say review, but will instead say actually read for the first time it seems, the facts(not speculation from heresy)
