Statue for Ray Lewis

Just want to preface that I'm not looking for a response with this post or trying to start anything or agree with any of it. But I shared this convo with a colleague of mine, and this was his response:

"So when ray lies, everyone says its criminal and a cover up with no hesitation, overlooking all the philanthropic activities he's done with inner city kids in Baltimore and Miami.

I don't care about the Joe vs. Ray thing, as I said earlier. And I agree that people rationalize - it's what people do when something happens to someone important to them.

As for the philanthropic, again, I dunno about all this after reading this article from last week. Also, being philanthropic doesn't change the fact that he helped ruin an unsolved double murder case.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis doesn't donate his own money to his charity - NYPOST.com

Whatt spare a dime of it for his own charity, The Post has learned.Lewis, who...

  • I think the biggest problem is the people who make this guy out to be this wonderful human being. Let's face it, he's done some things worse than others and there is no need for a statue or for people to hold him in the regard they do. Just like there was no reason for people to make Joe out to be god-like.

This is exactly how I feel. +1

Personally, I'm not a fan of the guy at all. I'm from this area and the idolization kills me. I just wanted to provide the other side of the argument of the medias role in fueling it and how our situation was damaged as much by media speculation.

The case was actually solved and closed out. His two buddies were identified as the ones who took the two victims lives, it was cleared as self defense though in court and then later by investigators when they started the whole case over.

Yeah, like I said, that was a coworkers sentiment. Unfortunately Many down here view Ray as a hero and an ambassador for cleaning up the city. As the city council said, They use his "likeness" to better the streets and impact the youth in a positive way.
