  • You are being very kind in your punting review. BOB gained great publicity for his tendancy to go for it on 4th down, but he had no faith in either his punter or kicker. He had limited options.

    To give credit where it is due, Ficken found a groove as a mid-range kicker. BOB is still a 4-down guy in long range

    But punting was the worst I can recall in my time at PSU. And I'm old. We ranked 103 out of 120 Div 1 teams in net punting at 34.45 yds per punt. And our net was aided by the fact that the punts were so short they were often unreturnable. Opponents only returned 11 punts all year (out of 51 total).

    The effectiveness of the offense meant we didn't often get into a battle of field position with punters. But the punting needs to improve. A lot.

    Amen brother, ever since the Jeremy's have left penn state, punting has not been a strong suit for the Lions. Fera was an above average punter but nothing special like Boone and Kap.
