"Last year, Alabama fans were kind, open, and respectful to Joe Paterno and Penn State fans alike. The Alabama student section even gave Joe Paterno a standing ovation every time he walked by.

In return we're asking that all fans STAND AND CLAP FOR ALABAMA AS THEY TAKE THE SIDELINE BEFORE KICKOF. Alabama is not Ohio State. They aren't Michigan. They're one of the most successful programs in College Football history and a friend of Penn State.

Give'm hell at kickoff, but return the favor they gave us last year first. In the very least. Don't boo them."

  • This is why we like you guys. It might be an old school rivalry, but you guys have a lot of class.

  • +1

Best time that I have ever had at a road game.

'Bama fans were respectful, fun, and generous beyond anything that I have experienced at a sporting event.

I hope that we behave the same way on Saturday.

  • I remember last year yall took tailgaiting very seriously. I haven't seen an away team come in and have a good time like yall did. It's was pouring down rain before the game and I remember being under our tent with a bunch of my bama companions, and all the penn state fans we're out partying in the rain dancing to Have You Ever Seen the Rain by CCR. That was pretty cool.

That tailgate was really really fun, but because of you guys I'm thinking of doing Chick-Fil-A at our tailgate this year.

I think Joe Paterno being one of the last connections to Bear Bryant has alot to do with it...wish this wasn't just a two year run

Much respect for bama. One of my favorite teams besides psu.

BUT how do you get 10,000 post in 7 month?

I gotta say, I don't love this. One thing to be respectful and have fun tailgating- I love that. But once inside Beaver Stadium, it should be a hostile crowd welcoming in the enemy. You can boo and maintain class at the same time. I won't be there, but you'd never get me to stand and cheer for the opposition as they enter the stadium. Never.

I have to say if I was able to make it I would boo the hell out of them. Not disrespectful, but our team needs to be well motivated and ready for battle.

  • No one's asking any PSU to support Bama, that would be crazy, just asking that we extend to their FAN BASE the same courtesy that they showed us and our Head Coach last year. I'm certain that Bama fans in no way, shape or form cheered for PSU on the field last year, but they DID show respect for our program and Head Coach as he patrolled the sidelines.
Lets just do ourselves proud this weekend and show them the same respect they gave us, that's all!!

I would love to swap brats, beverages and stories with some fellow tailgaters from Bama. I'm a fan of that program and have heard great things about the fans. However, "Stand and clap for alabama as they take the sideline before kickoff" is a little too nice for me.

No, we don't need to be cheering the number 2 team in the nation on to the field in our house. But we should definitely not feel the need to Boo them either.

  • I respect the hell out of Bama....always have. With that being said, I do not think I would be able to stand and clap for any team in Beaver Stadium that is not wearing blue and white.
Before and after the game is a different story. My tailgate will be open to any Bama fan that walks by.
    Booing Bama = uncalled for.

I agree. Big difference between not booing and clapping as they come in. I won't boo, but I won't clap. But, I'll have a Yuengling for any Bama fan that stops by my tailgate!

  • No booing, just lots of loud, and see me for Buffalo Chicken Dip, Tide.

    PSUbacon

  • There is no need to boo any opponent. Nor is there any need to wear obscene t-shirts disparaging the competition. Cheer on Penn State and support our team. Be positive in your support, and build up our team. Don't be negative in an attempt to tear down the opponent, thinking that somehow makes us better (it doesn't). Leave that crap to politics.

    psufan32

  • You don't even have to stand and clap for them when they come onto the field. They're going to bring them out about 3 seconds after our guys come through the gate to avoid as much booing as possible. You're going to be up cheering for our guys already. Just don't boo. How hard is that? Especially after the way we were treated down there last year.

Counting on it. I'm looking forward to the tailgating almost as much as the game. Almost. You guys showed you know to do it right when you were in Tuscaloosa last year. Respect.

BTW - we expect to get boo-ed before the game. It IS football after all. We get it every week on the road, as do you. Before and after kickoff is another matter entirely.

I don't know Vandy...apparently these yankees view booing as disrespect. Haha Have a good trip. From someone who has spent a 10 hour day tailgating outside of Beaver Stadium in the rain, I hope the weather holds out and you have fun. Pregame, of course! Go State!

  • This is one of the dumbest ideas I have ever heard of. First of all I am sick and tired of hearing how gracious Bama fans were to us. Do you know why they were SOOO gracious??? Because they knew they were going to KICK OUR ASS. Do I think many Bama fans respect Joe and Penn State? Sure of course. But let's not kid ourselves had we been ANY kind of threat last year that place would have been hostile from the get go.

They call it "Home Field Advantage" for a reason. Which means from the time the OTHER team steps out on the field until the clock strikes 00:00 as fans we should do our best to make it as uncomfortable and if possible intimidating as we can. Booing, jeering, screaming (as long as it is clean) are all perfectly acceptable before and during a game. Once the game is over then I agree whole heartily giving your opponent a round of applause win or lose.

If Bama fans are strolling by our tailgate I would say hello, be courteous and even invite some of them for a beer but lets not get all peace love & fuzzy here. Besides the only thing Bama and PSU have in common is a long successful football history and two old coaches beloved by there fan bases. But PSU and Bama are as different as Joe and Bear. Success with Honor and the Grand Experiment came from one coach and one school.

  • Im stoked about getting a chance to go to Pennsylvania. I've never been north of Maryland and have lived in a small town in Alabama my entire life. My father was at the 79 Sugar Bowl and always talks about the Goal Line Stand(which is considered one of the most famous in Bama history, if not the most). I grew up always chiming in to some PSU games when I could. Something about Paterno, but I've always put PSU and class hand in hand. To me its a dream trip. I told my wife I would go broke to get up there to see this game. I will be in the stands Saturday in the Penn State crowd, but I cant wait!

Last year Im glad we cheered JoPa. The man is a legend. For heavens sake, he coached next to our legend. The dude will be sorely missed one day.

    Good Luck!
