  • I wish people would just let this walk on crap go! I heard a great interview with Drew Astorino and he was asked what is was like coming into PSU without all the hype of being a 4 or 5 star guy and he said "once you hit the field, nobody cares about stars, it's about who can play." Clearly Matt McGloin has shown he's no bum or it would't even be a competition.

    And FWIW Garrett Gilbert, the Texas QB was a 5 star stud number 1 QB coming out of high school.... 10 vs. 17 ints later and doesn't look like such a stud. I just want to see one of these guys dominate on the field and make the decision easy.

  • This is coming from somebody who thoroughly enjoyed watching the Longhorns fallast season, but those INTs were far from Girlbert's fault.

    He could've held on to the ball a little longer, taken a few more sacks, but all-in-all it wasn't on him. They asked him to do too much too early. The kid had to relearn an entire offense with a horrid OC (I don't care what any of the stats say, Davis was horrible) Who was even worse as a playcaller in a Pro system than the usual Spread.

    I wouldn't write off Gilbert just yet, it was his first year starting. Just like I would write off Matt Barkley because all of his stats dropped last year and he ended with 1 more TD than INT (from 26/12 to 15/14), or John Brantley and his 9 TD 10 INT season last year. All three of those teams have better player depth than PSU. It isn't always just about the QB.

    I like Texas and Gilbert... I know it's bad to base opinions off 1 game but as a freshman after colt McCoy got hurt he had Texas coming back against Alabama, if it were 5ths instead of quarters I think the longhorns win that game

    The funny thing about Tx is they have a McCoy versus Gilbert crowd. Gilbert was also going to be the savior as a passer to those in Austin. Not a knock on Gilbert, McCoy, or anyone...just goes to show it's the same all over. No such thing as the perfect QB or program. The grass is greener tends to happen all the time during down years or times...nature of the beast.

    How is Cabot doing anyway? I liked his HS film and thought we got a steal for a walk-on.

    Also curious for any updates about Cabot. His film looked better than many of our options at QB for this year (Nosovitch and Hills specifically).

    To be fair, when your numbers are as bad as Gilbert's were (with ll due respect to Texas Lion, I understand what you were saying about those INTs...but he was still a fairly innaccurate QB, and had a lot of "Morelli" type moments, in that when the pressure was on he tended to do his worst - with the exception of the MNC, which is just strange)...you're going to get a QB controversy, if the backup QBs can merely breath and walk in a straight line at the same time.
