Something up with Texas athletics

Hearing rumors that there was wide spread prostitution in the Texas athletic programs.

Like hiring prostitutes or prostituting themselves?

  • How the eff did this thread go VIP?

    chasfcd11

  • Good question. Sometimes people don't even realize when they are making it VIP and then it just creates a wave of corresponding replies that are unknowingly VIP as well. I can speak to this because it just happened to me. Fear not though, I just un-VIP'd my last post so you can get a quick glimpse into my incredible mind.

I think if a VIP person replies to another VIP post, it defaults to VIP. I just changed my previous post as well.

  • Thanks guys. I'm not too worried about it, just thinks its funny how that happens sometimes..

Anyway, seeing as how nothing has come up yet, it may just be rumors after all...

Perhaps, but remember all the rumors about sandusky in...2009/2010?

If this is true, texas better get as bad as a punishment as Penn State.

I was a VIP member for multiple months, you don need to tell me. Gave it up to focus on schoolwork. And I'm a poor college kid with limited financial resources.

Who knows. I've seen everything mentioned from his name to some chick named Bev, to athletics wide prostitution, to football equipment mgr taking nude pics of the girls track team.

Got the skinny from my brother, a Texas alum and a subscriber to their Rivals board.

"Bev" is the former softball coach at UT, who was fired for having relations with either a player or a trainer. After the Applewhite news came out, and the situation was "dealt with internally" but he wasn't fired, "Bev" filed suit for wrongful termination.

On their rivals board, somebody asked if something would go down this weekend/soon, and they responded "potentially yes, if the Bev camp plays the ace up their sleeve." Somebody asked if the ace would be worse than Major, and they responded "yes." They wouldn't post anything else though in case it doesn't come out, so it wouldn't be slanderous. Apparently the guy being pointed at in the meantime is Barnes, who could have potentially had relations with a student (all speculation).

Interesting stuff though. Barnes is a good coach, although he's like Mack 2.0- except he coaches basketball.

This is not nearly as bad as program(s)-wide prostitution. These Internet rumors get ridiculous sometimes....

  • If its an athletic wide prostitution ring then they do need to be shut down.

Now having said that, wild internet rumors do come true. We have all seen that over the past 3 years with our own. I remember many saying that the sandusky rumors were just that, wild internet rumors. Turns out they were true.

We have all seen them not to be founded either.

If sandusky has taught us anything, its to wait for the facts.

They shouldn't be shut down, and if it doesn't give them any competitive advantages the NCAA shouldn't be involved at all. What should happen is that law enforcement should deal with it and be done with it. The problem for the NCAA is that now they've set precedence with PSU.

Lets say there is illegal prostitution going on in UT athletics and Dodds and some other higher ups knew about it and did nothing. The NCAA is stuck as this is illegal and highly unethical. Do they punish and risk another high profile lawsuit or not punish and help PA's case?

Al that said, I really don't think it is prostitution though, probably the innapropriate relationships ITT.

  • I know misery loves company but I really hope there are no issues at Texas. It shouldn't make us feel any better to have another school drug in the mud (unless it was Pitt). I remember what it felt like when other school's fan bases were ripping us and hoping we were shut down. I refuse to take that same route. Besides, college football is better when certain schools are relevant an Texas is one of those schools (and no, I am not a fan of Texas at all). It's a fact that college football is just better when schools like Miami, Florida State, Notre Dame, Penn State, USC, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, Nebraska, LSU, etc are all relevant. Lets take the high road and hope for this story to have no legs. And if the truth comes out otherwise than we can air our opinions. Always remember our anger and hurt when the shoe was on the other foot.

  • How about we do like we all have begged others to do and wait for facts to come out, then we all can share our informed opinions.

They should shut down their sports porgrams because someone else made poor choices? Come on.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

First lets see what actually happened if anything. Then I agree with you to a point. The thing I want to have is the NCAA keeps their ego tripping overstepping their boundaries going so the lawsuits keep piling up. Eventually they will lose or the membership will get fed up.

End game in my opinion is the NCAA to be reorganized and Emmert go to hell

Bev Kearney, ex-Texas Longhorns track coach, will claim discrimination - ESPN

Former Texas women's track coach Bev Kearney, who resigned Jan. 5 after disclosing she had an intimate relationship with an athlete in 2002, will announce the filing of an EEOC and Texas Workforce Commission discrimination charge, her attorney said.

Precedent has been set. If the ncaa turns a blind eye and says its a criminal matter and they wont be involved then they may as well just revoke our sanctions because that would almost certainly guarantee losing the suit vs PA

Agreed. And it would most likely bring a lawsuit by UT or the State of Texas. No win situation for the NCAA.

Nah, it's an "unprecedented" situation = they can do whatever they want.
