jm - Thanks for the insightful post. Perhaps my perception is a bit off based on the facts contained and I'm happy to admit when I'm wrong. I had generally felt that for years we were getting big time offensive linemen but it wasn't equating to on-field performance. That seems to still be true, but I did not realize so many were due to injury/grades.

In spring ball he was not put in a position to compete for the "open" guard spot on the left side.
That tells you what the staff is thinking.

In the B&W Howle and Shrive went in together with the ones. That doesn't mean that Howle is challenging Stank for a starting spot. Similarly, Shrive is not challenging for a starting spot. He got time with the ones in the B&W not because he is challenging for a starting spot, but because they were getting the starters out of there early.

I was not trying to imply that Shrive was challenging for a starting position, only that getting some first team reps compared to where he was, was a sign of progress.

With good reason.

*** can I add how much I enjoy that Jordan Hill and Urschel are so highly regarded now..... when they were offered and accepted, the fan base seemed none too pleased.

But instead of highjacking the thread.... I agree that Shrive has done more re: fundraising than football.... BTW.... since this is a football / sports board.... that is a decided BAD THING!!!!.... but give it second peeps.... the guy helped raise an ENORMITY of $ for a great cause.... so seriously.... some perspective here.

And (you're welcome) in final..... new coaching, new S&C..... put up or shut up time. 5* recruit with nothing to show for it to this point.... if you want it that bad Mr. Shrive..... you have your opportunity. I'd love to become a believer!
