I love the guy, but unless he gets faster, he will not be 1st Rd pick. On PSU fied, which is faster than the Combine field, he runs 4.6 . A WR that runs 4.6 will not be 1st round pick.

A lot of times I think they should do the moving 40 yard dash. Start at 60 yards, and then time the final 40 yards. A lot of these 40 times greatly vary from how you start out of the gate. It can easily account for the difference between a 4.3 and a 4.6 40 - and that starting position isn't something that's replicated on a football field really. If you combine the shuttle runs and that running 40 time, I think it gives you a better idea of how explosive someone is.

A moving 40 gives a better idea of how explosive a guy is?? I'd argue the exact opposite....that gives you a better idea of what kind of track athlete you are, not football player. Explosiveness is all about quickness off the line for most positions on the field. The moving 40 shows absolutely nothing other than top end speed....the 40 shows the more important trait of quickness IMO

That's why I included the shuttle run, which I think does a better job than the 40 time in measuring how quick players are, and how much control over their body in those first 10 yards they have. The moving 40 tests how fast you are.
Nothing in the physical tests really show what kind of football player you are. That's not really the intent of the combine.

You start each play not moving though so I don't think a moving 40 time is all that important. The NFL guys wants to see how well you can get off the line and get to top end speed.

You think all of those PSU players didn't go in the 1st, because of their 40 times? Interesting...
I don't know whether ARob will go in the 1st or not. However, I do know that teams that draft based off of combine numbers and 40 times tend to suck, so maybe it would be for the best for him to run a "slow" 40 time and be drafted by a team that actually watches film.
