Slight uniform change...

  • WIth the new coaching change coming, has anyone given any thought to some other uniform looks....blue pants w white stripe, navy helmets w white stripe, numbers on helmets again, a Grey w/ navy #s alternative jersey? Id be up for some subtle changes every now and then. Just some thoughts to disctact us from this coaching search drama....

Yeah that sounds like d-rod logic to me. How did that work out up in Michigan. Tradition has power why change it. People who need help selling jerseys change it. Powerhouses do not need to play fashion designer. This is football not a runway

  • I do not want any changes to the uni's. They look great and you know exactly who is on TV when you turn the game on. A couple of nights ago, NCST wore all red uni's and they looked horrible. And for as much hype as Oregon gets for their uni's, the majority of them look like ass. They get one good one for every 4 bad ones.

No thanks. Our unis are what they are for a reason. Maybe throw back helmets with the numbers, but that's as far as I'd go.

  • Put the numbers on the helmets and that's it. That's the only change I would want to see done to our uniforms.

  • There are other historical powerhouses who have 'boring' unis...

    - Texas
    - Oklahoma
    - Alabama
    - Tennessee

I like the fact that we stay traditional. Texas isn't doing Combat Unis...nor USC, nor OU. Bama's were very tame. There are certain programs whose basic uniforms are a large part of their trademark. Our unis' 'plainness' distinguishes us, and I like the company that we keep in that stance. I didn't mind the white trim on the neck/sleeves...but I don't want a stripe on the pants, blue pants, even numbers on helmets.

  • I'm a fan of not changing our jerseys.

As for Michigan they changed their jerseys again this year and used a throwback look at least twice.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

This is akin to the the President wearing a fish tie at the Inauguration. The image is slightly off so the entire image doesn't look right. Decades of tradition should not bow to trends.

  • OK, if we went really old school and had Pink and Black Jerseys for Breast Cancer awareness I'd be cool with that.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

Actually Oklahoma, Texas have alternate unis, Tennessee has Black jersey's, Alabama has pro-combat uniforms.

Now, the pro-combats that Bama has are different.

Texas has alternate uniforms with numbers above the longhorn (or in place of).

Oklahoma has white helmets with the logo and without the logo.

  • I'm a fan of changing our uniforms. I want the white trim back that they took away this year. Our current jerseys look like practice jerseys, especially the all blue ones. I want the white trim back but other then that, no changes. I don't even like the idea of putting numbers on the helmet.

    And blue pants?? Really??

Try to fathom the hypocrisy of a Government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured .but not prove they're a citizen

    sneakypete

  • i don't know, I kinda like the one rendition of the pro-combat that someone designed. I think it'd be sharp, and kinda cool to wear, once a year, or once every couple years, for big games.

OU tried Pro Combat back in 09 for a game, and I got to see first hand how they butchered the jerseys.

They made them look like Ohio State's home uni, and it made me sick.

IMO, if you have a trademark uni like we do, don't screw with it. I loved them taking the trim off, but that's the last change they should make IMO.

If they would do anything, numbers on the helmet would be enough for me.

  • I don't think changing the uniforms makes sense. Penn State has more or less branded the uniforms black shoes, no names, all white. To change now would be a branding mistake, why change the most distinctive uniform in college football. JMO

    danmcc

  • The one uniform change that I've seen other programs use that I really like is the matte finish on the helmets. I wouldn't mind using that once in a while, but outside of that, not really interested in uniform changes.

  • The only change i would do to the helmets is a slight metallic finish ala miam dolphIns but not as extreme

  • The jerseys should remain the same I remember reading an artice a few years back how the guys love the traditional look. As someone stated before teams that need an extra push try to sell all these "sexy" looks. Penn State the brand will sell itself nothing too outlandish maybe a stripe or two on the pants or #'s on the helmet but nothing more.

Penn State 7x National Champs, home of the winningest college football coach to ever grace a sideline.

    NittanyEagles

  • I'd remove the swoosh, it clashes with the plain white and plain blue jerseys. But I do understand marketing and Nike CEO is a Penn State alum.

We had numbers on the helmets back in the '70s. I think they current numberless helmets are just fine as they are. I agree we do have the most recognizable uniforms in CFB.

One tradition that I might consider changing is the way the team comes out of the tunnel for the home games. I was at the Nebraska game after the scandal broke and the players walk-marched out onto the field, four abreast, with arms interlocked. It was very impressive. Be cool if they adopted that going forward. It was a great display of respect and unity.

    Cheers!

  • Not going to lie. I love the uniforms as they are without the trim, but an alternate uniform, if done right, could be cool. I liked the one that David Jones from PennLive posted last year-or at least most of it. It had a blue helmet with a white stripe and numbers on the sleeves. I didn't like the funny shaped white trim around the neck. If I can find it, I'll try to post later.
