Within the last year, Lions247 has been one of the fastest growing sites in the 247Sports network and is now a Top 15 site in total members. The community has also exploded in recent months making this board the 6th most active community in the network in March.
Because of Lions247 continued growth, it was time to re-invest into the site with the addition of a second full-time staff writer to make the product here even better.
With that said, I’m excited to announce the addition of Jeff Rice to Lions247. Jeff has covered Penn State football and men’s basketball since 2003 for the Centre Daily Times with most of those years as the lead Penn State beat reporter for the CDT. His work has won multiple awards from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association and the Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors, including first-place awards for beat reporting, deadline reporting and column writing. He teaches introductory journalism at Penn State, his alma mater, where he covered Penn State football and was the sports editor at the Daily Collegian. A native of Lancaster, he loves the Phillies, Eagles, poker and playing remarkably inconsistent golf.
As you can probably can tell, I have known Jeff for years and I’m thrilled to have him on board. He’s a great addition to the site and will complement Sean in providing the best Penn State coverage out there.
Our goal since day one was to make this the best Penn State site out there and as you can see, we are committed to achieving our goal by re-investing into the product.

I hope everyone will welcome Jeff with open arms. Jeff is arguably the top writer on the Penn State beat and has been for a number of years. He's been someone that I have looked up to as a beat writer and reporter for a long time, and his addition to the site will be invaluable in my opinion. Jeff will be able to provide us with the day-to-day beat coverage and game coverage that we have lacked due to being essentially a one-man show. Additionally, this will free up some of my time to add more recruiting coverage and insider access that you guys crave. I've said it since August, 2010 when we launched our new home on the web - we're on the right track. Today we take a big step forward in establishing ourselves as the preeminent home on the web for Penn State coverage.
