  • Oh boy, this could go any number of places. Can't you see people adopting high potential kids, even with unwritten agreements, I pay you xx during college and I get xx chunk of the signing bonus.

    But we're the ones with the culture problem.

    The case played out like many other NCAA violations. College sports' governing body found a football player had accepted impermissible benefits and he was suspended. What came next, though, was highly unusual.

  • Wasnt that lineman in the movie from The Blind Side basically paid (adopted) to go to Ole Miss. Dont get me wrong, I think the family prob had good intentions, but I also believe that Hollywood tends to stretch things (duh) and it seemed pretty clear he wasnt going anywhere other than Ole Miss.

    Never saw the movie but I believe Oher was taken in before he became a HS football star. Floyd being adopted after receiving illegal benefits from the same sleazeball that was banned from his own alma mater is a completely different story. This will not be the last time it happens. I guess it wasn't Meyer's "vision" that swayed Floyd to Florida in the first place.

    I know that was the coaches quotes, but they are about as worthless as the message in the story..A whole lot of nothing will happen. Since nothing can be proven as a wrong doing, the NCAA will do just that--nothing! Unless your Penn State!

    What a shame too-if people are adopting children for the wrong purposes, thats such an injustice. Having adopted my two children at birth because of medical issues beyond my wifes and my control, it makes me sick to think that people would do it for anything but love.

  • We should see how many rich alumni we can line up to "adopt" some walk-on's over the next several years. Sounds like the NCAA doesn't have any problems with it.

  • How about this quote from the dad. Basically, if you're kids aren't going to be D1 atheletes, why even have them at all. Clearly this is a guy with questionable priorities.

    "None of my family members are good athletes, me included," Lahn continues, "so with my genes I would never have the opportunity to give birth to kids who play football or basketball in college at such a high level. Sharrif and Hendrix have given me that opportunity."

  • Guys, don't get your hopes up about this happening here... The NCAA published a new rule today that said that all schools may have their boosters adopt prospective players without penalty, except schools located in central PA that are on probation. I had a link, but it seems to have gone down based on a glitch.

  • Maybe I will adopt an under privledged (really good) player. I could pay for their tuition and have them walk on. If things work out and he turns pro maybe he will be able to pay me back. But if not I will just feel real good inside knowing that I was able to help someone outwhistling

    That would be very altruistic of you. Now that you mention it, I wouldn't mind adopting a couple of athletic young men as sons and giving them a better life in state college. Everyone wins!

    Why would he need an adoptive father if he already has a family?

    I have a better idea. Someone should marry Dorian Johnson's mother, adopt him and all of his siblings and move them to State College. Can the NCAA legislate true love?
