Not every team qualifies ... there is an academic requirement associated with it. Florida State wouldn't qualify; NC State wouldn't; all the Big East wouldn't; every SEC school sans Vandy wouldn't qualify; Kansas wouldn't qualify, neither would Iowa State, ... the list goes on.

Dude, I hate the BIG. It has done nothing for PSU absent the research money. That said, I was showing if PSU decided to bolt, it would have an impact. The BIG would have to make some major changes. Not saying its going to happen, but saying if it did.

Just added $13M more on top of that ass-kicking. I say screw em. Let's go back to being an independent. We can schedule all over the country - BYU, Boise, Miami, ND, and go back to owning our own destiny....See how they like having absolutely no good school left to add to make it 12 again.

The reason PSU has taken its medicine and not fought these sanctions is because they're scared of being boot from the AAU, Big Ten, and NCAA in general. The billions in research dollars are far greater than a hundred million or so in football penalties. Don't be stupid. This is an academic issue and your university officials are finally looking out for what is best for PSU. Fools.
You are thinking like football fans and not like scholars. Let those in charge lead you out of this, you'll be better off in the long run. Your university leaders aren't so narrow sighted.

ok first lets look at what your statement is wrong
1.) AAU could still give us the boot, there sanctions could be independent of the NCAA... 2.) DOE could still decertify us so that research money could be gone 3.) even if DOE doesn't decertify us, technically they could blacklist us for federal grants which would kill all those research dollars 4.) if the B1G wishes to keep us in as an academic institution they could (look at U of Chicago).
JMO, I think the B1G should have kicked us out a sports program...we are going to bring down the conferences strengthen of schedule for the next 20 years...All sports will suffer because of these sanctions...However, They should have kept us as a research institution based upon metric goals to reach with regards to research monies attracted.

The 20 years was hyperbole, but explain to me were the money is to fund our AD...all sports program will take a dive. The money just isn't going to be there...Its naive to think otherwise...Our endowment (in all likelihood) will be windled down to nothing after the DOE, the victims (rightfully so) and other organizations take their portion.

You'll still get TV money and a cut of the Big Ten $$ (except bowl money). You can still play games, sell tickets, food/drink amd memorabilia. I I think your endowment is over one billion. And i assume the alumni will still kick in money. PSU has more money than you think.

Your on crack. The B1G is standing right by your side at a time of dire need. All they are doing is taking your share of BOWL money that you can't contribute to and donate it to a charity that cares about abused children. I know it is tough....it is going to get worse before it gets better. The B1G will stand by you....your return will be much quicker with us by your side. This is not USC.....it is worse.
Stay strong...

It could of been worse and after a day of introspection I think this is pretty fair.
1. No death penalty potentially over 4 years.
2. Still on TV which coupled with scholarship reductions and bowl ban would of really drilled the program into the ground.
3. Penn State cannot cut and burn their way within the athletic department to pay the fine.
4. Although still a ways to go but this is likely the low point.
5. Taking the universally accepted big hit with acceptance by your leaders will pay dividends with avoiding the losing end with more important battles ahead.
